I suggest that there is something else to this glamorization and exaltation of the “masculine” FEMALE and that is sheer cover-up for the overwhelming failure of radical liberation. My generation of females (Gen X) are disproportionately “worn out” spiritually, intellectually and most obviously, physically. Ten to twenty years of going at it “like a man” will tend to do this to a female as you explicitly covered in your post about the female “Marine.” Females of my generation are hitting the wall in droves and they are wearing the degradation quite unconsciously. This in turn requires of the activist liberationists an amplification of the propaganda to insure that such females stay in this unconscious, but increasingly painful, state. The vitality they see is not the vitality they feel, but both sets of female are doing the same thing? So why the dis-ease between what should be and what actually is? None of my sisters told me about this wall I would crash into at 30-35 years of age. I still have 50-60 years to go. OMG!!!

Quote# 103077

Kind greetings! I was an avid reader of View from the Right and appreciated the many insightful posts and essays by the late Lawrence Auster regarding Western civilization, Christianity, and race. However, the racial issues bothered me so that I occasionally inquired him concerning his ability to reconcile Christianity with race realism (or human biodiversity, as I like to call it). To his credit, Mr. Auster posted some of my questions on VFR and thoughtfully responded to them. Please see the email below for an example of my inquiries.

My regret is that I never identified my race to him as I wanted to keep our exchanges as objective and impersonal as possible. In truth, I am a black man who has avidly studied race realism for at least ten years. The topic daily occupies my mind from the moment I awake until night falls.

Every day for over a decade. No exaggeration.

For instance, in your post entitled “What Destroyed Detroit?,” a reader mentioned that “…blacks are not self-conscious at all about the notion of white intellectual superiority. They acknowledge it readily and it doesn’t bother them at all.”

Would that it were so with me! I deem it mightily harrowing and nightmarish that a particular race can be inherently so far behind others in civilizational, organizational, and intellectual matters, especially a race of which I am a member. With the black race, regarding important matters that form functioning societies, the issue cannot be reduced to terms such as “less functioning” and “less capable.” Rather, blacks as a group are largely incapable of the markers of normal civilization and healthy societies, as exemplified by the likes of Haiti, Detroit, East St. Louis, south-side Chicago, and much of the African sub-continent (unless one deems wretched villages and slums teeming with bastardy, absentee fathers, polyandry, crime at peerlessly high levels, disease, and ignorance as functioning). In other words, the black race does not seem to fall within a clear behavioral continuum with the rest of humanity, but inhabit its own unique area that has little overlap with those of other races. For instance, does any other place on Earth, during peacetimes, fall to such ruination and seeming hopelessness as black-occupied lands? One might proffer the Muslim world as an example. Indeed, Islam has corrupted Middle Eastern peoples to staggering obscenities, but their problems are mostly religious. The problems of blacks chiefly lie with themselves. Ask Paul Kersey.

I struggle with the juxtaposition of a just, loving God who holds all men by the same moral standards and the stark reality of a group that, when left to its own devices, appears so dispossessed of (or heavily disinclined towards) normal social conduct. Is not my race generally doomed to failure, immorality, and ignorance? Notice that black areas, especially in America, are replete with steepled and storefront Christian churches, yet to a large degree, exhibit similar dysfunctions as voodoo-believing or animistic West Indians and Africans. Such realizations even make me question the very purpose of my race (and therefore myself). I am haunted by and almost obsessed with these dark, uncomfortable queries. They predominate my daily thoughts.

I write these things not to impute any wrongdoing on God or to question the veracity of Christianity. I am a believer of Jesus Christ, regardless of the general inabilities of my race. As Job declared, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” Believing in God is the easier part. Believing that He would have allowed such a benighted race to be created (or to evolve) and expect it to overcome its entrenched incapacities and live as morally and competently as others (and divinely judge them accordingly) is the more difficult part. I see, God forbid, no bright light at the end of their tunnel. Given this race’s intellectual and behavioral deficiencies, how can I?

Why do you think most Westerners, even Christians, deny or ignore race realism? The acceptance of this reality is simply too hard to swallow and leads to endlessly more perplexing questions.

In summary, I cannot find peace in this area by pretending to make race un-important like today’s liberals, multiculturalists, and globalists. Nor can I—a student of Thomas Sowell, Steve Sailer, and Lawrence Auster—explain away my race’s glaring deficits by deflecting them upon the long exorcised specters of white racism, slavery, and colonialism (like most blacks). My knowledge of history is too deep for me to fall for the sloppy, blatant lies of scholastic Afrocentrism (e.g., that Negroes built ancient Egypt and Carthage and derived geometric equations). I most definitely cannot and shall not become angry with or accusatory towards God.

Therefore, no outlet exists at present that will defuse my deep angst and enable me to cope with the pitiable lot of my race.

I trust, from your writings, that you are a God-fearing, charitable, and highly intelligent lady. Can you please offer me some advice regarding how I, as a black American, can better deal with the aforesaid issues and have peace? Were you black, how would you feel about the situation and what would your coping mechanisms be?

Quote# 103075

[Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary recently admitted a Muslim student who was pursuing a doctorate in archaeology (not theology), under special circumstances. All emphases in original.]

1. As a godly man recently told me, you become what you tolerate. Think about the precedent [SWBTS president Paige] Patterson has set. Instead of "This Seminary exists to train Christian pastors to preach Christ," we've now arrived at "As long as there are more Christians than unbelievers, we're still good. They're 'sold-out evangelists,' after all." There are no brakes on this train. By Patterson's standards, the ends (people getting saved) justify the means (violating policy and admitting unbelievers). Just think how many unbelievers might get saved by going to Seminary! Why not admit 100 staunch atheists next year? Let's get them saved! If SWBTS wants to become a school that educates Muslims to spread Islam, they've certainly chosen the right course.
2. A member of the Board of Trustees spoke immediately after him, and it is clear that they support him. This means that Patterson will continue to flout policy and destroy the Seminary's mission in the process.
3. Muslims are not on our team. American Christians risk nothing by openly preaching the Gospel in front of American Muslims, but think about some possibilities: if a Muslim goes to a convocation about the underground church in Saudi Arabia, he has no reason not to call his Saudi Arabian buddy and tell him where the Christians are hiding. It is very possible that our brothers and sisters will die because of this decision.
4. Don't miss the applause at the end of Patterson's speech. The fact that so many attendants support him is incredibly troubling. In the one place where he must be held accountable, he was supported. Stunning.

It should be apparent by now that the battle for the Southern Baptist Seminaries has not yet been won. When a mere profession of Christian faith is no longer required to be admitted to our seminaries, we have lost our way as a denomination.

"Atheistic science" is descriptive term for science that clings to materialistic explanations at the complete exclusion of biblical insights and phenomena not explainable by materialism. There may be Christians who pursue atheistic science as a way of getting a degree or putting food on the table.

The circular statement that "if there is a 6.0 earthquake in Napa, then it is on an active fault line" is not illuminating. A good theory, which goes beyond atheistic science, is needed to predict and explain earthquakes better.

In an age of information, and especially in the Internet age, ignorance is no excuse. We should know what happens in these death clinics. We are rightly aghast and horrified at the beheaded victims of Islamic jihadists. Abortion also results in beheaded and dismembered innocent victims.

Our abortion mills are flowing with the blood of murdered babies. But people are claiming ignorance. Perhaps we should force everyone in favor of such baby killing to tour an abortion mill, and look at what happens, and handle the remains of a burned or dismembered baby.

Had German citizens seen what things were really like before 1945, maybe many would have risen up against the Nazis. If people today could see how the victims of the abortionists are treated, they too just might rise up and make a stand.

What will it take to end this genocide?

Quote# 103053

Science educators have recognized that teaching science as a large compendium of facts, without reference to the scientific process and theories that bind them together, simply leads to uninterested and uninformed students. So it's a bit mind-boggling to discover that an Ohio state legislator is attempting to ban educators for teaching anything about the scientific process. And for good measure, the bill's sponsor threw politics and creationism into the mix.

The bill, currently under consideration by the Ohio Assembly, is intended to revoke a previous approval of the Common Core educational standards, which target math and literacy. However, the bill's language also includes sections devoted to science and social studies. And the science one is a real winner:

The standards in science shall be based in core existing disciplines of biology, chemistry, and physics; incorporate grade-level mathematics and be referenced to the mathematics standards; focus on academic and scientific knowledge rather than scientific processes; and prohibit political or religious interpretation of scientific facts in favor of another.

Specifically prohibiting a discussion of the scientific process is a recipe for educational chaos. To begin with, it leaves the knowledge the kids will still receive—the things we have learned through science—completely unmoored from any indication of how that knowledge was generated or whether it's likely to be reliable. The scientific process is also useful in that it can help people understand the world around them and the information they're bombarded with; it can also help people assess the reliability of various sources of information.

Prohibiting "political or religious interpretation of scientific facts," however, opens up a large can of worms. People who believe the Earth is less than 10,000 years old frequently claim that they work with the same facts as actual geologists and biologists; they simply interpret them differently. Although the wording of the bill is vague, it could be interpreted as blocking educators from pointing out how completely inconsistent with the data this interpretation is, or prevent them from describing how the evidence favors a four-billion-year-old Earth.

One of the bill's two sponsors, Rep. Andy Thompson (R-Lima), has gone back and forth about his intentions. Last week, he told The Columbus Dispatch that the bill would open the door to instruction on intelligent design: “I think it would be good for them to consider the perspectives of people of faith. That’s legitimate.”

This week, however, he told the Cincinnati Enquirer that the bill does nothing to put creationism into the classroom—instead, he said it's all about the political interpretation of science. And his example of politicized science, naturally, was climate change. Confusingly, as evidence of climate change's political nature, he cites past estimates of agricultural productivity and the availability of fossil fuels.

The bill is still being considered, and Ohio residents have time to contact their legislators to try to prevent its passage. For those wishing to keep track of it, the National Center for Science Education has a page dedicated to news out of Ohio.

[On Christian singer Vicky Beeching coming out as a lesbian; the "Christian evangelist who's trying to help her" is Scott Lively.]

What's really sad about all this is that her statement will make many young Christians believe the lie as if it's the truth due to her attempts to twist God's Word. She can claim all she likes that homosexuality is "a God given gift" unto her after giving up to the demons rather than bowing to Christ who can free her from this bondage of sin. Sin can be manifested in many ways. Homosexuality is just one way it ears its ugly head. In a society wherein everything from promiscuous heterosexuality to recreational drug use are accepted as the norm, it's understandable that some will simply give up and bow to the sin as if it's ok when they see so many others doing it all around them. They no doubt think of it as a "gift from God" as this poor soul says in the video. In any event, bringing her to the limelight in this manner has always been Satan's method to destroy the faith of billions. He uses what the world calls strong Christians no matter how much they deny the Bible by getting them to perform sinful acts publicly or announce loyalty to sin in the name of Christianity. It is no coincidence this woman is a Roman Catholic Theologian either. That's right, she admits to having a PHD in Theology at around 13:00 in the video so as to brow beat the Christian evangelist who's trying to help her. She cannot see the truth he is sharing because her religion of choice fosters all sorts of sinful acceptance within its walls simply by its Paganistic theology alone. The fact her theological teachers have often stated in writing their hatred of the Bible highlights the fact that her theological instruct is subject to Biblical exposure by even the youngest babe in Christ. Bottom line is this. According to the written Word of God, homosexuality is an abomination unto God. It questions Him as the perfect Creator and declares Him a liar when He proclaims He created Adam and Eve and not Adam and Steve in the Garden. Therefore, she cannot be seen as an obedient Christian by any means. Being a theologian wherein she is expected to know the Word more than most; she is now what the Word defines as a "worker of iniquity." Sadly, the Bible is painfully clear about how the Lord looks upon those that "hold the truth in unrighteousness." Psalms 5:4-5 plainly states "For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity." With so many watered down sermons and lukewarm Christians out there today that bow to all decadence in this age of ecumenical movement rush, someone needs to step up and speak as the Lord would have them speak

Quote# 102985

Real Christians have at least learned better than to pretend that there is no God. And yet many of them have found a new batch of deceptions to cling to, one of the most absurd of which is the assumption that human comfort is at the top of God’s priority list. To these people, God is a benevolent Santa Claus figure who can’t bear the thought of humans suffering. Well, this really isn’t who God is, and nothing awakens us to His comfort with our pain faster than seeing Him striking us down with some horrific disease which He Himself has invented. As we find ourselves breaking out in hideous rashes and experiencing severe pain and suffering, we are forced to question what God’s priorities really are. If pampering us isn’t at the top of His list, what is?God is His own first priority. He demands to be revered by the creatures He has made. If we refuse to do this, He knows how to drive us to our knees by terrorizing us with suffering that is beyond our ability to control. We don’t have to like God in order to revere Him. When you stay back from an electric fence that is buzzing with life, it is because you revere the power that it has to kill you. Reverence is a respect which comes from acknowledging that something or someone is superior to you. No one is more superior than God. He created everything that exists, and He could uncreate it all with a single word. He has created the world that we can see with our eyes, as well as a whole other world that we can only catch glimpses of through the lenses of powerful microscopes. When we try to figure out the way this creation works, we end up with far more questions than answers, and this should result in reverence for God’s superior wisdom and genius. When we see how swiftly a microscopic animal can shut down our bodies and kill us, we should respond with sincere reverence for God’s awesome power. Everywhere we look, God is demonstrating His immeasurable superiority over us, yet we have the gall to mock and dismiss Him. Bring on the Ebola virus. Perhaps increased fatalities will help us to rethink this delusion that God only cares about blessing us. On the contrary, He finds it quite pleasing to strike us down in large numbers in order to drive us back into alignment with His priorities. God wants to be revered. When we revere God properly, we stop treating Him like some vending machine of blessings that we can manipulate into giving us what we want. God does not exist to give us what we want, and if killing off our loved ones is going to help us realize this, then that is what He will do.

Quote# 103034

HADES is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew word SHEOL and is located at the center of the stationary earth.

Tartarus is the temporary abode of the fallen angels or GIANTS who corrupted mankind before the Great Flood of Noah:

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell (Gk. Tartarus), and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly. (II Peter 2:4).

Some GIANTS like Goliath went there later and the giants that inhabited the New World are also there.

Most people laugh at the idea of HELL and refuse to believe that such a place exists. Most of the out-of-body or near death experiences describe a pleasant sensation with visions of an angel of light or some kind of benevolent being welcoming them to paradise.

Reports of people who describe a totally different and horrifying experience are often suppressed.

For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell (sheol), and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. (Deuteronomy 32:22).

For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Matthew 12: 40).

He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in (Hades), neither his flesh did see corruption.(Acts 2:31).

HADES is also called the bottomless pit or simply the PIT....Most people have to die first before going there, but there is an account in the Bible of men who rebelled against JEHOVAH and Moses . . . and they went down ALIVE into Sheol:

[...]

Allah is a sure ticket for a journey to the center of the earth!!

The demon Allah who is worshipped in the Islamic religion is a sure guarantee that you will miss PARADISE and end up at the center of the stationary earth.

Islam DENIES the 3 central doctrines of true Christianity:

1. The Bible is the ONLY and Final revelation of Almighty God.
2. The 3 divine and eternal persons in the ONE TRUE GOD.
3. The Resurrection of the Son of God from the dead.

[...]

Don't end up in HELL....get your password to HEAVEN now!!

Every day of the year, at least 155,000 people die and most of them make a journey to the center of the stationary earth.

You can avoid this HELLISH experience by getting your PASSWORD to Heaven right now!!

The password to Heaven is . . . BLOOD . . . as in "the BLOOD of JOSHUA CHRIST, God's Son cleanseth us from ALL sin" (I St. John 1:7).

The Exodus from Egypt was a type of the redemption in Christ. Egypt was symbolized as a type of HELL as it is called an IRON FURNACE:

But JEHOVAH hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the IRON FURNACE, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day. (Deuteronomy 4:20).

Deliverance from Egypt mandated the killing of an innocent LAMB and sprinkling its blood on the doorposts of the house....When JEHOVAH saw the BLOOD, He passed over that house, and the people escaped death and a journey to the center of the earth.

Quote# 103026

The Homosexual Agenda Has Been At Work For Decades

The homosexual agenda is deliberate, wicked and has been in the works for the past century. Hollywood since its inception has been a cesspool of homosexuals and pedophiles. Walt Disney was a known pedophile. Disney Deceit Part 1 Disney Deceit Part 2. Even today, Walt Disney's staff are sexual degenerates. Lesbians and homos are prone to target children. Our perverted society is in utter denial, because of the sinful indoctrination by television. All of the dirty Late Night Shows, the flesh pot of Prime Time TV, the lasciviousness of sick shows like Anger Management with Charlie Sheen, all contaminate our American culture.

Homosexuals have been planning their sick takeover of American culture for the past 50-years. The leading character of Mike Brady in the mega-popular TV series, “The Brady Bunch” was a flaming homosexual in real life named, Robert Reed. The super popular singer, Elton John is a flaming homosexual, well accepted and beloved by American society. It is not mere coincidence that numerous celebrities in every genre are coming out of the closet nowadays. It was planned that way from the very beginning.

Children Are Being Homosexualized In The Public School System. As you learned in the preceding link, schools across America are secretly showing children pro-homosexual propaganda in the classroom, until they get caught. Then they apologize and the evil newsmedia lets the matter go. For every wicked teacher who gets caught teaching children homosexuality, another 100 don't get caught. I tell you, Hell will be filled with such evil teachers who corrupt children, teaching them that it is ok to sin.

Homosexuality is evil, unnatural and a total perversion of marriage. It is impossible for two women to be married. It is impossible for two men to bear children. Males and males cannot procreate, because nature won't allow it, and God created nature. There has never been a culture in history of homosexuals who accepted and obeyed the God of the Bible, nor have they ever truly received Jesus Christ. Jesus said in John 7:7 that the world hates Him, because He testifies against the world that their works are evil. Homosexuality is sinful.

Quote# 103024

If you study the history of the Word of God, you will find that approximately 40 different men, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God, penned the Holy Bible. Compare this to just ONE MAN who wrote the unholy Quran, Muhammad. Skeptics often challenge the authenticity of the Holy Bible, claiming that it was written by powerful men to control the masses. Well, if that's the case then it sure hasn't done a very good job, because hardly anyone listens to what the Bible says. Over one Billion Roman Catholics follow the Vatican, going totally contrary to just about everything the Bible teaches. Catholics don't follow the Bible. I've visited numerous Catholic parishes and never saw a Bible anywhere. In a good old-fashioned Baptist church you'll find Bibles in all the pews.

Catholics are discouraged from reading and studying the Bible on their own. Of course they are, because the lying priests don't want people to see the truth. The Vatican is nothing but a satanic secret society who have fabricated a bunch of manmade doctrines to control the masses. But that's not the Bible, and that's not God's fault; that's evil men who have sold out to Satan! I heard a priest myself explain to his 500 member congregation why they should trust the priests instead of trying to figure out the Bible on their own. He said the priests were “experts” who should be trusted in such weighty matters as faith, God and spiritual things. What a satanic fraud!!!

Quote# 103022

You can believe anything you want and the world will accept you, EXCEPT Christianity. The rock band “THE BEATLES” sang praises to the Roman Catholic Church in the song “LET IT BE.” They promoted eastern religions in their song, “MY LORD” by George Harrison, promoting Hara Krishna.

There's only one satanism, one occult, one Satan, one rebellion, one antichrist spirit. That's very interesting. Why are there several thousand different religions in the world, but satanism is satanism? The reason is because Satan wants to create confusion to keep people from coming to Christ. Satan wants to blind people's minds from the Gospel, lest they should be saved (2nd Corinthians 4:4). The truth is that no religion can save you from Hell. Salvation is NOT found in any religion; but rather, in a person—the Lord Jesus Christ! Satan's greatest weapon is to con people into living a religious life, without ever being born-again! Consequently, most religious people are going straight to Hell to burn forever.

Many famous people are Buddhists (Steve Jobs), Muslims (Barack Obama), Mormons (Mitt Romney), et cetera. Nobody cares if you're a member of some religious cult; but people go ballistic when someone professes to be a born-again Christian, unless you live worldly like the Devil. Charlie Sheen claims to be a Christian, but he lives like the Devil, saturated in sexual immorality and perversion. 2nd Timothy 3:12 says, “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” If you're living godly, then you cannot tolerate homosexuality, you will be compelled as a God-fearing Christian to speak out against it as a sin. The sinful world will call you a hatemonger, bigot and fool. They crucified the Lord Jesus Christ, and they will crucify you if you take a Biblical stand against false religion, wickedness and the massive fraud at work in the U.S. government (CIA, Homeland Security, NSA, FEMA, White House, Federal Reserve System, et cetera). The U.S. newsmedia is controlled by the same wicked affluent people who have hi-jacked the federal government.

If you are a born-again Christian living for the Lord, you are the biggest enemy of Satan and the New World Order. The Godless world has the false philosophy that everyone is going to Heaven, no matter how wicked they are, unless they commit some really horrible crime. That's how unsaved people think. Yet, the shocking Biblical truth is that there are murderers in Heaven like Moses, David and Paul; but hardworking, sweet and likable people like Robin Williams, Mother Teresa and Steve Jobs are burning in Hell. You don't go to Hell because you're bad, and you don't go to Heaven because you're good. You go to Hell because you die in your sins, rejecting God's grace that freely offers salvation to all men. Even the vilest sinners like Lot, Samson and Paul (formerly Saul) are saved the moment that they come to God as a sinner and receive the Lord's sacrifice on the cross as payment for their sins.

[Gonzo here is referring to the submitter and another poster on the forum]

It's my sincerest hope that some day, those two assholes find themselves staring down the barrel of a gun held by some psychopath, who's determined to make them suffer before he kills them. It's also my sincerest hope that I am there, armed, witnessing it. Because I want to be able to look them in the eye and explain to them that I had the opportunity, the ability, and the TOOL to save their life. But instead, I'll be content to watch their life end by a psychopath utilizing the VERY TOOL that could have saved them, had they not worked so hard to take it OUT of the hands of the law-abiding people who could have saved them.

I know it makes me a piece of shit to "wish harm and death" on another person. I can't help it. I have nothing but contempt, and undiluted hatred for assholes such as these, that I'm willing to admit that watching their death would, indeed, bring me satisfaction.

So, a final appeal to the admins of these forums. This is not an "ultimatum", this is a REQUEST.

Will you PLEASE get rid of these two toxic fucking children?

This man got up on the heckler's box yesterday at Huntington Beach. He was a science teacher who believed in evolution. He also maintained that he was a Christian.

Of course, like most believers in Darwinian evolution (as Richard Dawkins calls it), he was confused between adaptation and evolution. When Scotty handed him off to me, the man used the f-bomb. This was because I challenged the nature of his so-called commitment to Christ. No one who says he is a follower of Jesus can embrace the unscientific theory-tale of evolution. This is because Jesus said, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female...'"(Matthew 19:4).

When we look at the fossil record and the existing creation we see observable scientific evidence for male and female. In all of the different species of birds, fish, animals and insects (except for a few low life's) we see male and female, each bringing forth after their own kind.

Creationism can be observed and tested. Evolution can't. Not in a million years. If you think it can, watch four leading evolutionary scientists flounder like gasping fish in a dry desert, as they vainly try and think of some: www.evolutionVsGod.com

I find it ironic someone turned on by girl on girl could be so against homosexuality. Hypocritical much?

Why?

I like women. I like seeing two women together.

Most heterosexual men do, so I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this is an innate thing.

It's how one reacts to their innate impulses which defines them, not the fact that a person possesses them in the first place

Sexual Immorality and Five Other Reasons People Reject Christianity: Why do people reject Jesus? As someone with a keen interest in doctrine and apologetics, I usually focus on the more intellectual reasons for disbelief. I have found that skeptics are generally ignorant of sound theology, sketchy on the facts of history, and shoddy in their use of logic and philosophy. As such, my goal is always to gently instruct them in these areas, using evidence and argument to help them understand the teachings of orthodoxy and the reasons for believing that the Christian worldview is true. But I also know that even if I succeed in my argument, that’s won’t necessarily get a skeptic to turn to Jesus. There are a myriad of other factors at play. Here are six.

Christians Behaving Badly: People who call themselves Christians can be jerks. There is just no way around this fact. From sign wielding preachers of hate to motorists with fish stickers who flip obscene hand gestures, believers don’t always show much gentleness and compassion. This turns people away from Christianity. [...]

Heartbreak: [...] I’m sure most of us can think of someone we know who is angry at God about some tragedy in their life. Often, it seems, this goes hand in hand with a denial of his very existence. A recent study led by psychologist Julie Exline of Case Western Reserve University supports this notion. In studying college students, her research indicated that “atheists and agnostics reported more anger at God during their lifetimes than believers. A separate study also found this pattern among bereaved individuals.” If atheists and agnostics are angry at God, what does that say about their skepticism? It seems to suggest that the intellectual label they wear is motivated by their hurt more than rational analysis of the evidence.

Fatherlessness: [...] Vitz’s “defective father hypothesis” suggests that a broken relationship with one’s father makes it very difficult to accept a supposedly loving father in Heaven. Vitz developed this theory while studying the lives of history’s “great” atheists, including Hume, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Russell, Sartre, Camus, Hobbes, Voltaire, Butler, and Freud. All had fathers who died when they were very young or were “defective” in some major way. James Spiegel notes that this principle also applies to many modern day skeptics as well, including Daniel Dennett and Christopher Hitchens. (The Making of an Atheist, 68) [...]

Social Pressures: [...] Again, they are not evaluating evidence and making reasoned decisions. They are becoming unbelievers because they like how it makes them feel to be accepted into the “in” group.

The Cost of Discipleship: [...] In cases like this, skepticism is simply the rationalization of a desire to stay comfortable. People don’t want to take on the commitment that becoming a Christian requires, so they claim that it must be false. [...]

Immorality: Now for the big one. Of all the motivations and reasons for skepticism that I encounter, immorality is easily the most common. In particular, sexual sin seems to be the largest single factor driving disbelief in our culture. Brant Hanson calls sex “The Big But” because he so often hears this from unbelievers: “’I like Jesus, BUT…’ and the ‘but’ is usually followed, one way or the other, with an objection about the Bible and… sex. People think something’s deeply messed-up with a belief system that says two consenting, unmarried adults should refrain from sex.” In other words, people simply do not want to follow the Christian teaching that sexual intercourse should take place only between and man and woman who are married, so they throw the whole religion out.
[...]
So Paul argues that the nature of reality is clear to everyone but people suppress the truth by their wickedness. Rebellious people become fools as they deny the obvious meaning of creation because of their sin. Their foolishness leads them to indulge in more immorality. Thus immorality is very closely linked to skepticism and we need to be aware that sin will almost always be at least an underlying issue in our conversations.
