That makes things worse to me not better. Their idea of a goddly father is someone who allows their brother to abuse them and burys the evidence when it comes out. If that is a godly, loving father who cares about the well being of his family than I worry about their families.

A father who truely cared would have kept Josh away from his sisters and watched closely the moment this was found out.

You want to know what my problem is? Really? My problem is that to people like the Duggars their reputation means everything to them. They put on this image of being godly, of being loving and caring, of always doing the right thing, of being better then most people and that image is more important then anything else. They can't admit they are flawed like everyone, no they act sinless while condemning everyone else.

It happened not once, not twice, but three times, and one of the children he molested was five years old. Only one of them wasn't one of his own sisters. This man now has daughters of his own.

People with a sexual attraction to children don't suddenly stop molesting. They get better at hiding it. Eventually, however, the truth will come out and other girls who have been abused by Josh Duggar will make their voices heard.

It didn't stop when he was sixteen. I wonder what you idiots will have to say when the wife who is not allowed to divorce him eventually leaves because he forces himself on one (or more) of his own children?

Now if what Josh did was SO horrible and the victims feel Josh hasn't been punished enough and needs to be punished further and the victims want to be compensated, I would recommend suing Josh for whatever fits the crime. Jesus went to trial for what the locals considered 'crimes'. Did he claim that because he was the Son of God, all was OK? Did he say "hey, I didn't sin, so what is the big deal?" Did he appeal to the fact that he had followers? Did he claim that religion protected him in any way whatsoever?

No. He went to trial and took his punishment. And he forgave the people that sent him to a horrible death. And his executioner.

Meanwhile, some of his supposed followers are all trying to cover for or support another of his supposed followers that broke the law, saying that he shouldn't have to suffer for or answer for his crimes. They even have the audacity to say that because the victims forgive, everyone should just let it go.

This Christian says no. Hold him accountable for his actions. Salvation and divine forgiveness are between him and the Creator. Violation of the law is between him and the state. Which, by the by, is also law that Jesus told his followers to respect.

I won't resort to name calling. I will say that by defending this person, you are proving a poor example of the faith. "Mistake" or no, the law and societal norms both agree that this guy deserves punishment. And saying "hey, Jesus forgives, so it's cool" sounds rather unrepentant to me.

He can't be convicted because the statute of limitations has run out. It was 3 years. The more severe the crime, the longer the statute of limitations is. And whoever made it 3 years did NOT do it with the intention of protecting Josh.

I would recommend reading what Eric Hovind has to say about Josh Duggar. I should also point out that Paul was a murderer and yet God never killed him or made him go to prison for life. After getting saved, Paul spent the rest of his life serving God. So should Josh.

Today seems to be one of the days where I can talk about this without being triggered, so here it goes.

I was very young when I was raped. There is a twelve year age difference between my assailant and myself and he was a minor when he assaulted me. Do the math. The horrible, horrible math. Instead of taking him to the police he was taken in front of the church elders. I never got justice. In fact, I was told that if I did not forgive this monster that God wouldn't forgive me. I was threatened with hellfire and damnation until I stopped talking about it and "forgave" him.

The Duggars lied in their Fox interviews. Multiple people have pointed out their inconsistency and outright lies compared to the police report. Which I suspect is the real reason you hate that the report was released. People can read it for themselves and see what liars the Duggars are.

I can never imagine your pain. All I can say is that you have a friend here in the UK. And I bet I'm not the only one. And if Planet Reality ensuring that such perpetrators will get what they deserve, then what happened to you - and your courage in relating such to everyone here & beyond on the internets - will strengthen the resolve of lawmakers and the relevant govt. departments & charitable organisations (i.e. the NSPCC, Dr. Barnardos etc here in the UK) to either prevent or at least punish those responsible.

The ability to forgive something so... wrong is not a common thing. The lack of that ability is not something to condemn someone for. Like I told them: read the book and actually think about the kind of person they are. Though, background considered, I doubt that would help at this point. Anyone that says "that person is an unsaved sinner, and therefore it would be best that they kill themselves" is not listening to the message. If you seriously think that encouraging suicide is an acceptable way to reduce the number of people that do not follow your way of thinking, you may well be beyond help.

Thanks everyone.

I consider myself lucky. Not only did I survive, I kept partial fertility. Many survivors who were my age when it happened lose the ability to have children. My daughters are my precious jewels.

It gets a little easier to deal with every year. A lot easier since I left the patriarchal, fundementalist church malarkey. My current counselor (an atheist and male feminist) is a blessing. And I have Christian friends I wouldn't trade for the world.

If True2God hasn't pulled a disappearing act I'd lurve to hear her excuses when faced with the reality of the situation and the horrors of Matthew 6:15.

"But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."

I doubt the Duggar girls forgave Josh because they wanted to. I honestly believe that, like me, they were emotionally blackmailed and forced into forgiveness by their crazy fundie sect.
