If you study the history of the Word of God, you will find that approximately 40 different men, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God, penned the Holy Bible. Compare this to just ONE MAN who wrote the unholy Quran, Muhammad. Skeptics often challenge the authenticity of the Holy Bible, claiming that it was written by powerful men to control the masses. Well, if that's the case then it sure hasn't done a very good job, because hardly anyone listens to what the Bible says. Over one Billion Roman Catholics follow the Vatican, going totally contrary to just about everything the Bible teaches. Catholics don't follow the Bible. I've visited numerous Catholic parishes and never saw a Bible anywhere. In a good old-fashioned Baptist church you'll find Bibles in all the pews.

Catholics are discouraged from reading and studying the Bible on their own. Of course they are, because the lying priests don't want people to see the truth. The Vatican is nothing but a satanic secret society who have fabricated a bunch of manmade doctrines to control the masses. But that's not the Bible, and that's not God's fault; that's evil men who have sold out to Satan! I heard a priest myself explain to his 500 member congregation why they should trust the priests instead of trying to figure out the Bible on their own. He said the priests were “experts” who should be trusted in such weighty matters as faith, God and spiritual things. What a satanic fraud!!!

Which would explain why it's such a mess with a lot of factual errors and contradictions.

That's because the church doesn't have that kind of control any more. But go back to the Dark Ages, and you could have been thrown in jail for not attending church. And even today you have idiots like David J. Stewart trying to tell everyone else how to live.

So what the hell is the Catholic Priest reading from at the front when he does the bible readings? How about the Lecterns? Also forty for the bible? That sounds a bit low. Even the council of Nicea had more on staff and they edited the bible. I'm pretty sure everyone who had a hand in its writing edited it some to fit their agenda. Whether kings, emperors, or just religious people. Plus the oldest stories probably come from oral traditions that were probably exaggerated over time more and more.

Also it's not like in most places in America you can't take two steps without falling over a bible. No, they need to be EVERYWHERE!

Grow up and try to lose the islamaphobia. Marrige to what we now define as minors was normal up until relativley recently, and if you actually knew anything about the Prophet Muhammad you'd know he brought about fundamental improvements in women's rights within arabian society, to a degree which, taking account of his starting point, frankly dwarf in scope any similar steps in western society until the vote and the pill. Hardly his fault people later wrote his revelations down and then followed their letter rather than their spirit.

If you want to judge people living 1400 years ago by today's societal norms then good for you - 1400 years from now similar thinkers will be teaching how evil 21st century individuals were for, I don't know, exploiting living creatures for food, or killing fetuses, without taking account of our social/technological context.

Dear David, but what it I pick up a Bible, read it (or parts of it), and come up with a different interpretation of what I read than you agree with? You're going to tell me that I'm wrong and that I'm heading for eternal damnation. To be saved, I have to interpret the Bible in the exact same way you do. So how are you any different than the Catholic Church?

Dear David, the Catholic liturgy is set up in such a way that if you attend mass every day and the priest does all the readings as they are planned, over a three year span you will have heard the **entire Bible** - every single word in it.

Your precious Baptist preachers choose the readings themselves and end up repeating about 50-80 select passages over and over and over again. They reduce the Bible to a small selection of greatest hits and ignore about 95% of what they call "God's word".

Few people nowadays read Latin, and Catholics keep to the old ways, with the Bible in Latin. None of this new-fangled secular language shit for them. Reading on their own is what brought forth all these fundies who read but forget to interpret and adapt to today's world, and they have little or no knowledge of the time in which it was written.

Catholics and Protestants use basically the same Bible, numbskull. Catholics used it first, and the Protestants did a bit of adaptation and update to it before they began using it. God likes that, right?

There are theologians who have studied the Bible for decades, and who use the collected body of 2000 years of theology studies, and they still don't "figure out the Bible", dumbass! The priests ARE experts, just as teachers are the experts in school, who teach kids about Math, Chemistry, Languages and Geography, etc. Kids are not encouraged to figure out Chemistry on their own, right?

So, faith, God and spiritual thins are not weighty matters to you, Dave, but flimsy and easy-peasy fun stuff that even the most uneducated fool can figure out on their own?
