The battle against gay marriage will ultimately be lost (like the battle against abortion) unless the church and the culture return to the absolute authority beginning in Genesis. Then and only then will there be a true foundation for the correct doctrine of marriage—one man for one woman for life.

First sentence - wow. Ken Ham isn't lying. I'm frankly shocked.
The rest, well, typical drivel.
"one man for one woman for life"
Oh, right, "the correct doctrine of marriage" like one man, multiple women, and don't forget the concubines: Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon, and others all had multiple wives. Yeah, let's get back to those "biblical values". And while we're at it, we can stone children for misbehaving, and put to death those that work on the sabbath. By the way, Ken, have you ever worked on the sabbath? What about having shrimp on the barbie, wearing clothes of multiple fabrics, or trimming your hair and beard?
See, this society (by which I mean the democratic republic known as the U.S.) NEVER regarded Genesis or the Ten Commandments or the Koran or any religious text as any kind of absolute authority. We have made errors, yes; but this country has never been a theocracy.
In one paragraph, you have eliminated atheists, agnostics, Muslims and any other citizen who does not adher to a Judeo-christian worldview from this society.
So it boils down to this: come and get me.
The absolute authority of Genesis? In which case, you'll have to make room for polygamy, marrying a concubine, marrying your wife's servant and levirate marriage.
The battle against gay marriage will ultimately be lost (like the battle against abortion) unless the church and the culture return to the absolute authority beginning in Genesis.
The battle against gay marriage has been lost. Conservatives are just fighting a rear-guard action against what they know is a lost battle. And unfortunately for them and you, the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment says you can't use the bible as a legal authority.
@creativerealms
Hell, he doesn't even need to read past Genesis. Abraham fucked his wife's servant Haggar (out of wedlock!) and Jacob had two wives, and also fucked their respective servants, Bilha and Zilpa.
The definition of marriage as defined by the Torah is a business deal between two men involving an exchange of property. Throughout the Torah, your deity never once expressed disapproval of this, though he sure seemed to start pounding and screaming when the proper ceremonial rules weren't followed, which suggests that even your deity doesn't place a high priority on teh gays.
In any case, pretty much all opposition to gay rights comes from the Bible. Many of the more articulate and politically savvy fundamentalists will try to hide their reasoning behind pseudoscientific psychology from thirty years ago, but that is because "gays are bad because Jeezus" is a losing argument in the modern political culture.
No Ken, Genesis clearly shows that the original intention was one man on his own forever.
You know, if you're determined to take an utterly literal reading of it.
You're right, Ken, in that unless Christians have faith in a literal Bible then they can easily question which aspects of the book they should follow. However, most Christians cherry pick now, so you're fighting a losing battle. Also, you're forgetting that you are a picker of drupe yourself with your refusal to abstain from eating shellfish.
one man for one woman for life.
For life, just like Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Dole, Ronald Reagan, John McCain, George Will, Dick Armey, Phil Gramm, and the author of DOMA, Bob Barr. It would appear that Republicans want to protect marriage so they can keep it for themselves to enjoy as many times as possible.
"...unless the church and the culture return to the absolute authority beginning in Genesis."
Yes. That's a psychopath's daydream. When rigid authority can be enforced by terror and torture. All in the name of a sky beast, of course.
You've already GOT that, Ken! There are bound to be enough "absolute authority" churches around for any fool crazy enough to want one. These are the people who will pay attention to your viewpoint, and will form a culture that runs according to those laws. True, it's gonna continue to be a small subculture, but please remember that god-bothering is an OPTIONAL vice.
1) Yes, the battle will be lost. So give up now.
2) You haven't actually read your Bible very closely, have you?
@ katrinahood:
In fairness to Christians (and if a Satanist being fair to Christians isn't irony...), you pretty much have to pick and choose just to get through the day. Liberal Christians just pick the good bits of the teachings while conservatives pick all teh worst bits (and then claim they aren't).
Then and only then will there be a true foundation for the correct doctrine of marriageone man for one woman for life.
I see Ken here has never read Genesis past the story of Noah early on, or else he'd know about Jacob, who married two wifes and God completely approved of that.
"one man for one woman for life"
Right, just like your bible. Oh, wait...which of these "one man for one woman for life" choices again?
