And the Uber-Orthodox types don't realize that not adapting their faith to a new society or era is one of the big contributors to the existence of the horror that is anti-Semitism.
Jews became an ideal scapegoat for whatever was annoying society due to being incredibly insular. When you isolate yourself in extreme ways, outsiders get all sorts of weird ideas. It's happened to Roma as well. The Amish, while usually not hated, are often the but of jokes and exploitation (with trashy, totally-fabricated bogus 'Reality Shows' like Amish Mafia or stupid movies like Kingpin).
People, groups, social clubs or government agencies that get all super-insular and secretive have a way of giving outsiders weird ideas. Why the heck do you think junk like "Skull & Bones", "Bohemian Grove", Freemasonry, etc. get so much traction with the "tin foil" set?
Keep in mind, I'm not against embracing one's home culture or having neighborhood enclaves (Chinatowns, Little Italys, Little Havanas, etc.). Such places are often great places to nurture culture and identity. I'm not against secret social clubs, either.
.....The point I'm getting around to is that, if every Jew suddenly went Haredi, Judaism's days would be numbered. If something doesn't evolve, it dies.
I won't deny the JudeoFrums' right to isolate themselves. I do, however have an issue with people who act like special snowflakes because of it and see anyone less insular & frummy than them as an ancient Canaanite or something.
