Quote# 110155

This is the part that bothers me the most. If the Bible allowed for gay marriage, then fine. But it doesn't. A God who created and blessed America is being spit on by those who are oh so proud of themselves in doing so. As a Christian this morning, I can't help but to think "why bother?" Why bother fighting anymore? Why bother trying to get the gospel out there to friends and others who are not believers? How can I warn them about God's judgment when America has been turning her back on God since the 60s and God appears to be silent. Even now, will anything happen to this country that can't be easily explained away by citing natural weather patters or predictable financial patterns? If the Rapture is God's next supernatural break into this sinful world, fine. But get us out of here, Lord...and soon please. I feel lost in a sinful world of relative silence from the God above.

It allows for polygamy though so I'll assume you're OK with that.

Consider the following: if the Bible allowed for usury, then fine. But it doesn't. In fact it condemns it in strongest terms, quite frequently. Definitely moreso than homosexuality. Why don't we see Real True Christians (TM) going out of their way to make bankers' lives harder? Where are the sermons full of outrage at the very existence of capitalism? Where are protesters, handing out leaflets on Wall Street? Where are politicians, promising strictest of regulations, if not outright banning of this unbiblical practice?

Question: why? is left as an exercise for the reader.

There is a reason you're still waiting for your silent god to do something other than things that have other explanations....

A good question. You might like to think about why your God's behaviour is indistinguishable from what you'd expect to see if he didn't exist.

A God who created and blessed America
No.

Maybe the silence should give you a clue about the god above.

Yes, God has been extraordinarily silent. It's almost as if he didn't exist -- or didn't care.

I think this one is beginning to see the problem with blaming every flood and forest fire on god's wrath.

If your god is real, and if your god objects, we will extend to him the honorary position of American citizenship and permit him to speak up in protest. And now a word from your sponsor, god:

(* crickets *)

...and God appears to be silent.

That's one of the reasons why I left christianity. The way it makes people like yourself think (or abandon thinking entirely) is another.

Intellectual suicide is not a virtue.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, YOU might be the one opposing the will of God?

God did not create America. Yahweh was not a founding father.

"As a Christian this morning, I can't help but to think "why bother?" Why bother fighting anymore? Why bother trying to get the gospel out there to friends and others who are not believers? "

Why bother? If you read your fucking holy book, you'll find out that there are many, many abominations that you hypocritical Christians have been ignoring all this time that you've been infatuated with (and often practicing, like Ted Haggard) homosexuality.

Why don't you start persecuting those that wear mixed fabrics? Those that work on the sabbath? Those that eat shellfish? Those at get divorced?

If you'd just read your goddam holy book, you'd find all kinds of new opportunities for your bigotry, discrimination, persecution, and hate.

So get started. I expect you to be picketing Red Lobster from now on. And stores open on the sabbath. And clothing stores. And divorce attorneys.

If the Bible allowed for gay marriage, then fine. But it doesn't

And if the Bible was even slightly connected to the law, that might be relevant.

Get used to it, kid. Your god's been silent for a lot of centuries.

How can I warn them about God's judgment when America has been turning her back on God since the 60s

Yeah, ever since Loving v. Virginia. No, scratch that, ever since Amendment XIII.
