If anything they are more guilty, the heresies of democracy and rationalism could not have risen without the reformation, so they not only have the sin of disobedience to God upon them but allowed the formation of even more sinister causes.
As I mentioned, error has no rights. There is only one true religion, Catholicism, and no other can be tolorated. Pius IX rightfully confirmed in the Syllabus of Errors the only true freedom of religion is to practice the only religion that is true.

Hey, at least the Imperium allows variation. There's thousands of different variants on the Imperial Cult and they all get along surprisingly well. (Adeptus Astartes beliefs notwithstanding).
That actually puts the Imperium ahead of Christianity when it comes to how well different dominations get along. Now there's a unnerving thought.

See, the silliest thing about religion is the belief that the punishment for not being Catholic, e.g., is just as severe as the punishment for murder or child rape.
If God condemns people to hell for minor doctrinal disagreements (as many churches believe), how can you possibly expect to pick the one true path to salvation? It's like you could spend your life as a nun, healing lepers, and praying constantly, only to spend all eternity gently roasting because you failed to believe in homoousios.
