I knew one personally.
What does that mean?
"theres no such thing as an atheist on the death bed..."
@not completely useless
"Counterexample: Carl Sagan"
I'll see your Carl Sagan, and raise CounterPart-bx Arthur C. Clarke. He didn't want a religious funeral, nor wanted people to grieve for him.
Intense fear will make many people do things they otherwise would not do.
But then, without intense fear, fundamentalism would not exist.

Utter bollocks. Four years ago I was dying and the thought of a deathbed conversion didn't enter my mind. These Bible thumpers desperately want to believe in life after death. They're terrified of dying and want to believe. The ironic thing being that they are also scared of living. Hence the religion and a stern father figure in the guise of God, who'll look after them, both in life and after death. Sad and pathetic really.
I know of at least two hospice paatients I worked with that would beg to differ
If they weren't entirely too dead to argue that is
Besides if everyone converts on their death bed, then I have no need to do so now anyway
Ah, but there are.
Well documented.
Just like "there's no Atheists in foxholes" bullshit wasn't just disproven by written testimony, of those that were in those foxholes and trenches but by major military and govermental leaders.
You can lie to yourselves, and so do so, but you can't prove shit like "theres no such thing as an atheist on the death bed." when in fact it's really common.
@Mikgof
I think they also say shit like this as a mantra to give them the idea that Atheists are full of doubt on the issue of afterlife, to make them feel that doubt is common, as they harbor it deep themselves.
Posts over the years seem to support that, some of them are quite sad and pleading for extra assurance.
Confused?
