Quote# 124686

(from a discussion of the movie Pleasantville, when asked why he'd called the film evil):

I haven't seen this since I was tricked into doing so when it was originally in the theaters, therefore my answer won't be as comprehensive as it could be if I'd seen it recently, but here are some of the reasons:

1. It glorifies Onanism.

2. It glorifies fornication.

3. It misrepresents people who have wholesome family values as idiots.

4. It misrepresents people who have wholesome family values as racists.

5. It says the world is bad if it is a good world that has morality.

6. It says the world is good if it is an evil world that has no morality.

5. It says the world is bad if it is a good world that has morality.

IIRC, nobody ever went to church in that movie. No church was ever even mentioned, nor was Jesus. So, by your very own definition of morality coming from the Bible alone, how could these non-church going pagans have morality? The only place they ever met was in the chamber of commerce. They worshipped money and commerce, not God. So how could they be moral, by your definition. Jesus' blood wasn't gray.

Pleasantville took the rose tint out of 50's nostalgia and ground your face into the warts, showing just how deeply disturbed a closed, unchanging society where people's roles are predetermined can be. And how readily they'd turn on each other if one hair fell out of place. Of course you hate it.

I've never seen this film, but if it has Navaros' knickers in a twist, then I know what I'm doing tonight.

I really liked that movie.

I'll even say, good on Pleasantville for glorifying "Onanism"! Masturbation is effing awesome!

Hey...it's sex with someone you love, right?

2/20/2017 12:32:09 AM

It glorifies coitus interruptus?

Did it really glorify fornication, or did it only show people having sex without being married, without either placing blame or praising it?

People who do what they do because it has "always been done that way" are idiots.
People who denigrate others for the tone of their skin are racists.

Morality is to not harm others, to help others if you can, to treat others as you want to be treated.
It's not feeling all smug and superior because you pretend to follow the Word of God.

No, Swede, morality is only what one "holy" book says it is..get it straight.

Last post by me was total sarcasm. BTW.

So basically because it didn't fit your prejudices and was rather accurate in portraying the truth

Happy Atheist

I'm really not surprised he didn't like the film. The entire point of the movie is displaying the flawed notion of good ol' fashioned values and the importance of broadening your worldview. He seems to fully understand it, he just doesn't believe the message to be true.

Plus, there's not one mention in the film of god's glorious penis, so I'm sure he's upset about that too.

Must've been desperate for things to bitch & moan about prior to your precious avenue of bitching & moaning being permanently removed, eh Navvy?!

Well, that part of IMDB.com no longer exists. And if it can eliminate your unjustifiable way of thinking, then this part of this world is ultra--moral.

Doubting Thomas

What are you talking about? The older sister near the end of the movie decided it was better to not be a slut.

Way to miss the point! Pleasantville was about the hypocrisy!

The Crimson Ghost

Unsurprisingly, someone missed the point. I always thought the point was that the Nifty 50's weren't all they were cracked up to be.

And I liked Pleasantville.

It's the end of an era. I'll miss laughing at Navaros, his self-righteous idiocy, his unique use of language, and his extolling God's holy righteous penis, now that IMDb is gone.

I tried a google search of "God's holy righteous penis" to find out if he was carrying on anywhere else. I did find a book in which a character's rants (in court, no less!) are Navaros quotes, some of them full paragraphs.

But I doubt the author is him, because the character seems to be one we are not supposed to like -- more likely it's someone who plagiarized his rants because they fit so well in the mouth of a religious nut.

Mister Spak

"1. It glorifies Onanism. "

I don't recall the onanism scene in that movie.
