The moving of the goal posts is a key problem, in my opinion.

Some snarky liberals have said, to paraphrase, life goes on, nothing changed in your lives, as homosexual marriage was imposed on America. We’re going to look back and say what was the big deal, etc. to paraphrase.

The big deal is that it sets the stage for more and more “normalization” if you will, of more extreme behaviors and ideas.

for example, I’ve heard that some homosexual oriented political activists have said, that they eventually want to see group marriage, with any number of partners, any sex of partners. But before they could push for that, they had to establish and normalize monogamous homosexual marriage first.

One thing leads to another. One thing sets the stage for another.

And off topic, but what’s with these “Gay Straight Alliance” clubs in schools nowadays? My God, such would not have been permitted back in my day. Why do we need clubs in school which revolve around sexual identity type issues in the first place? And are the adults who run these “gay straight” alliances clubs merely seeking to “educate” young people about sexual identity, as opposed to “recruitment”?

But even if it’s all about education, it still begs the questions as to why schools allow anything to do with sexuality in the first place.

"One thing leads to another. One thing sets the stage for another"

The fundie sexual version of the Cold War Domino Theory again:

"ALL sex other than PIV between spouses of a one man-one woman marriage is the same: Forbidden By God, Therefore Evil! So if gay marriage is allowed, the first domino is pushed over. Then, in chronological order, group marriage, incestuous/pedophile marriage, zoophile marriage, necrophile marriage...LEAVE THAT FIRST DOMINO BE!!!"

What was the big deal? Schools have always taught sex ed, either in the classroom or behind the bike shed. And the only people I see calling out for the legalization of polygamy are the cult-fringe fundies, with ancient men demanding multiple teenage brides.

Lemme see... Oh it`s cause sexuality is the extremely vital part of our lives for almost all of the population and as much as you`d like to see it repressed and in the corner this si out of your grubby little hands now and so it will stay.

Thinking Allowed

I have a conservative cousin. At one time he was against same sex marriage. Then one day, we were discussing it and I finally said "Cousin, don't you think that they gays should have a chance to get divorced just like straight couples do?"

He's ok with it now.

@Kanna:

Actually, I'm all for legalizing polyamory, as complicated as that will be.

Why don't we talk about the dominos that have already fallen? Getting married without the parents consent/arrangment. The wife is not considered property of the husband, and can own her own property. Interacial marriage. Abolishing child marriage. The right to divorce with a (mostly) equal split.

Oh wait, people like dilbert opposed all these advancement tooth and nail? Colour me shocked /s

also a note on the adult-child relationship thing, it's only the weird religous right wing politicians that continuosly oppose and raising or establishing age of consent laws.

You get the fuck out of my County, right now. It's bad enough we skew slightly red because a lot of the Mexican Catholics are weirdly conservative, mostly for narrow social platforms with a left bias in economics and immigration. We don't need fuckheaded homophobes here. No get out or I'll summon all of Hillcrest to Pride parade all over your neighborhood.

@Thanos6

Polygamy isn't a thing that should be legitimized until the legal details can be codified, and yes, that will be exceptionally complicated. Rights and responsibilities of all parties, informed consent, who gets the kids, who is responsible for paying to maintain the kids, would a marriage/divorce be between two people or between three or four, etc., what legal relationship would plural wives have with each other, how would government benefits such as welfare checks be parceled out, and who gets the inheritance from a deceased person? That's just for starters.

I guess you guys would know. You conservatives, especially the fundie conservatives, are absolute masters of the shifting goalposts...

Gay marriage was *imposed* on America?

How does this terrible imposition look?

Um, okay...does that mean you had to leave your wife, marry a leather-daddy (or whatever the fuck people in that subculture call themselves) and play 'wife' impaled on his throbbing, super-gay hog-leg?

What? No? Well I, for one, am shocked.

Okay, so did you and your wife get shipped off somewhere for 'reeducation'? No, again?

So, what DID happen now that gay marriage has been 'imposed' on the United States?

Nothing. Nothing happened, you hateful turd. The exact same thing as what happened after interracial marriage was 'imposed' on the US.

Not a God-Damned Thing.

Doubting Thomas

Moving of the goal posts, eh? You mean like how the country hasn't imploded and marriage hasn't been destroyed since same sex marriage was legalized, and now your lot says "Just wait until people want to marry their sisters, their dogs, or their cars! Then you'll see!"

It all started when we legalized miscegenation.

Nothing wrong with polyamory if done right. If more homophobes minded their own relationships, maybe 50% of straight marriages wouldn't end in divorce.

"But even if it’s all about education, it still begs the questions as to why schools allow anything to do with sexuality in the first place."

Because the parents won't teach it. Teens are screwing each other. Period. Gay, bi, or het, they are sexing each other. It is better that they know how to do it properly, and how to get testing done, than for them to ruin their lives because they were forced into ignorance.

Also, GSAs are about being able to be yourself among your peers, in a world that hates you. They are a good thing, and acceptance is known to reduce suicide risk in LGBT youth.

Edit:
@Kanna: You do know it's not just one man/ many women pairings that want polyamory and polygamy/polyandry, right. Queer Poly exists too. I know poly people with multiple partners and children, and they have contracts and things in place just for the purposes you mentioned. I personally think we should get the legal system away from marriage altogether, so there are no special rights for married people. Make contracts and get powers of attorney, like single people do.

@RiJayden:

Exactly. Kanna, I'm a bi guy, who's currently in a happy, loving poly quad with a woman and two other men.

"they eventually want to see group marriage, with any number of partners, any sex of partners."

The horror. Consenting adults not getting married in the typical group size? Why, next they'll be wanting to pick their own spouses!

My God, such would not have been permitted back in my day.

Just one of many reasons why our time is objectively better than yours was.

But even if it’s all about education, it still begs the questions as to why schools allow anything to do with sexuality in the first place.

Because biology is a primary subject in basic education and sex is a major part of biology whether you like it or not.
