Quote# 131519

Y'all leave Joel Osteen alone! In fact, leave megachurches and their pastors alone period! Funny how no one bothered all those Hindu temples that are in Houston, asking them to take in refugees. Nor all of those hotels! And what about all those giant Catholic churches, Orthodox churches, Buddhist temples or mosques?

And lets not forget all the nightclubs! I'm willing to bet not one strip club opened their doors to allow displaced Harvey victims to camp out there during the flood. Bunch of hypocrites!

You only attack Osteen's church because he's got the biggest prettiest church in the country; and most of you all go to little run-down churches that's been collecting money for that "building fund" for decades - and ain't built that new sanctuary yet! Or you don't even go to church at all.

Even other pastors jumped in on the attacks - yet I'm willing to bet none of those pastors were willing to pay out of their pockets to put displaced Harvey victims in hotel rooms for a few weeks.

Let's stop the preacher-hate. It's gotten old and tired. Especially when it comes from other so-called Christians. It's too late in the hour for that mess. Christians are the only religious organization in the world that attacks and devours its own members!

Instead of acting like an army of Christ controlled by the Holy Spirit, we act more like an army of mindless zombies controlled by social media!

But that goes back to the whole 'wheat vs tares' thing. There's a whole lot of tares growing alongside the wheat, trying to fake folks out by pretending to be something they're not. But don't worry: reaping season is coming! And woe unto those who thought they were wheat all this time, when they were really nothing more than weeds and tares!

There's gonna be a whole lot of funny looks on peoples faces when they stand before Jesus on judgment day, acting like they're the best of friends: and Jesus starts shading folks for their shady activities and behavior towards other Christians! *see Matthew 7:15-23

How can you tell the tares from the wheat? Easy: you can tell by their fruits. Are they busy attacking, smearing and trying to uproot other folks in the church - or are they too busy producing good works to be bothered by the unrighteous criticisms of others?

Happy Atheist

Shocking that Mr Major is quick to jump to the defence of someone who uses Christianity solely to make money.

How many churches have taken in tares who are refugees from Irma?

Why, it's as if your 'God' wants the Unsaved to go to Heaven too: he doesn't care about their 'Saved' status.

Congratulations, Peterbilt Minor: You have realised that the Unitarian Universalists got it right.

How's it feel, knowing that you & Arseteen are wrong...?!

We will never leave you & him alone. After all: why aren't there any quotes here in FSTDT from UUs & Quakers?

That is not a church, let alone the prettiest one; it's an ugly-as-sin concrete block! So we can add "atrocious taste in architecture" to the long list of Mack Mammon's vices.

He got attacked BECAUSE he had the biggest, prettiest, RICHEST church, but offered no help at all until public pressure was exerted. Here was an opportunity, delivered right to his doorstep, for him to share the "fruits" of his endeavors. Shame on you, disparaging "little run-down churches". Osteen has the big bucks. It's appropriate to expect major help from him in this emergency.

I think it's safe to say that the Hindu, Catholic, Orthodox, Buddhist, and Muslim communities in and around Houston were and are falling over themselves to help storm victims in any and every way possible. Without being asked. Charity and community work is one of the mainstays of all of these groups. All year round. Without the press watching.

I also think it's safe to say that Joel Osteen's charity work is limited to country club luncheons for his major contributors.

Sure, there are individuals in all religious institutions that give their group a bad name. Joel Osteen will be in line with them to get into Hell.

Churchy LaFemme

That "prettiest church" looks like something proposed for Berlin in the 1930s. If I wasn't told it was a church, I'd assume it was part of a suburban business mall.

Those other churches are helping the storm victims without waiting for the news cameras to document it, or announcing it to the publicity machine. It appears that Osteen did nothing until he was questioned by the media, and then made sure everyone knew that he was providing aid. I suspect that the aid will only last until the cameras are turned off. Maybe if Osteen paid taxes on the millions he bilks from his followers there would have been more infrastructure in place already to help the displaced. You're right--we can tell them by their fruits. That's why we recognize that Osteen is a con man. Too bad he doesn't follow Jesus' direction to sell everything he owns to give it to the poor.

"There's gonna be a whole lot of funny looks on peoples faces when they stand before Jesus on judgment day, acting like they're the best of friends: and Jesus starts shading folks for their shady activities and behavior towards other Christians! *see Matthew 7:15-23"

And Olsteen and the rest of the televangelists will be at the head of that line, looking at each other and wondering whether they'll be able to fool Jesus.

Oh and Mack, Joel's excuse of why he didn't open help is because the city didn't ask him to was utter bullshit. We'll just ignore that his bible said he should help those who need it.

How about your own church Mack? Nah, don't answer that.

I can't ask Mack the question myself because he's banned me from posting on his Facebook page.

Hey Mack. Matthew 25:41. Osteen did not follow his own Bible. And chances are the temples were trying to help people. Thus they proved better people AND despite the Muslims, Buddhists and Hindus not being Christian they would still be better Christians than you or Osteen

The Angry Dybbuk

This is, by some dark miracle, one of the stupidest Mack Major posts I have read. That's saying something, considering where that bottom-feeding grifter falls when compared to the rest of humanity.

If Joel Osteen won't take in the needy, he's not worth the air he breathes (not that I've ever had a good opinion of that flashy fake; frankly, I'd rather be stuck in an elevator with Mack, the Real James A. Wilson, and Andy Dick...seriously).

Heh - might not be that everyone has liked the limits of our hospitality, but we have nothing and we take lodgers. Always. If someone needs a warm room, it's there. If he or she can live with a dybbuk that cares about virtually nothing, then come on in and stay for months.

How many millions is that pimp, Joel, worth? And he won't help the poor. When he dies, grind his useless corpse into mulch so that the Earth at least gets its due for not opening a sinkhole under his disgusting ass and swallowing him whole.

And what in the ever-loving fuck is Mack talking about when he says only Christians attack their own? Is he seriously that ignorant of basic world events?

That's because you're in competition with each other, you only come together for combined power or to force others out. Because you're only a business, it's all about money and power, always has been.

And you're defending him by? Why, attacking other churches, faiths and actual TAXPAYING businesses of course.

By many Christian beliefs the building shouldn't exist, that isn't for glorifying God it's for glorifying wealth and for the sake of showing off.

I hope no money goes to these megachurches but with the pandering to that base this is gonna be more bad news.
After Katrina Ws Adm. was criticized for not allocating enough disaster relief funds. Turns out they released loads but choose to give much of it to church organizations and shortfunded FEMA efforts. The churches, predictably, kept most those funds.

With Trump /Pence pandering even moreso watch most disaster relief be funded this way again.

Because a lot of them had already opened their doors for the people in need, you silly bint.

The reason people are hard on Osteen, is because he professes to be Christian, and Jesus told his followers to help people in need. Osteen is filthy rich and has more ability to help than most people, yet he all but refused to help.

To most people in Sweden, the below is a pretty church. What Osteen has, most people here would see as a vulgar monstrosity.

If you don't want to pay out of your own pockets to help people in need, stop calling yourself Christian, right now!

Why don't you check Matthew 25:35-40, Micky Minor?

Closed his church. Lied about why. Took collections from people that had nothing.

Also, I live in Houston, and I can personally verify that Mosques, Hare Krishna temples, and most other religious organizations were either taking people in or assisting those in need rather than screwing them over and turning them away. So you are talking out of your ass as usual.

Judge that fucker by his fruits indeed. Fuck Joel Osteen and everyone like him. And fuck you, Mack, for supporting him and being a con artist of the same stripe (albeit less successful). I hope your site goes down again due to lack of funds (oh the irony for a prosperity gospel type) and that Lakewood fails and goes back to being a concert venue.

That's because they were already doing it, you dumbass! There were Muslim mosques opening their doors to refugees, but not Osteen's huge megachurch. That is, until internet backlash finally forced him to do something Jesus would approve of.

And I still say that Joel Osteen looks like Butthead from Beavis & Butthead, but I'll leave that right there.

Dr. Razark

The first day I was emptying out my house, someone from the local church came by and said "We have meals available, if you come by our church. We've also taken in donations, if you need clothes."

The second day, someone dropped off hot dogs and chips. I asked what group they were with, and they said "We're not. We're just out here trying to help people."

The third day, someone dropped off sandwiches. I asked what group they were with, and they said "We're not. We're just out here trying to help people."

The fourth day, someone stopped by. They offered us sandwiches or spaghetti. Then they gave us ice cream. Water and gatorade. And a bag of ice. I asked what group they were with, and they said "We're not. We're just out here trying to help people."

Not a single one asked us to pray, or gave us a sermon, or expected anything from us. And none of them waited until social media had pressured them into acting.
(While typing this, I just got a text message from the city. The church from the first day is (almost two weeks later) still serving meals to people.)

@Dr. Razark

My household was lucky. We only lost power a few times, but were cut off from virtually everywhere for a while. Others, less so. A family of friends spent a week with us until the waters receded enough for them to get the stuff out of their place that wasn't ruined. Many people I know (including my roommate) ended up without jobs. My grandmother is staying with us because the senior apartments she was staying in flooded (thankfully she was on the second floor), though they are well into the process of repairs.

We made what donations we could without someone prodding us to do it. Which is far more than Osteen could be bothered to do. Fuck's sake, my pastor cousin's first real break was Saturday, and in addition to helping wherever he can, he has a son in Florida (though he's hoping that the panhandle where said son is will be spared), and has been either helping with donations or donating himself. If he can do it with a small fraction of the funds that prick has, said prick should be able to get by without taking collections from the victims.

And Mack here would likely say all of those churches that are helping out (hell, he singled out the Catholic churches, and our local one has been one of the larger donation centers and shelters) are "run down little churches" that aren't willing to pay for people's hotel rooms (funny... Osteen isn't doing that, either. Despite being one of the wealthiest pastors in the nation). Mack knows not of what he speaks, and can fuck right off.

Mack Major is a cross between a Return of Kakistocrats-style toxic masculinity guru and a New Ager who switched sides during an occult hysteria*.

* unlike virtually all other "ex-[boogeymen]", I am actually inclined to believe him to be genuine due to the large amount of non-Christian special material and several things that are reminiscent of the New Age mindset (especially the more unsavoury aspects). Although I see the evangelical movement as the Christian entry into what is known in German as the "Psychomarkt" ("psych market"; i.e. sellers of snake oil for the psyche), so New Agers and phoney self-help gurus are their main competitors. anyways.
