@Kingpink2ITL:
When Buddhists had the sads about what was going on with them in Vietnam they acted against it by self immolating.

If you pushed buddhists into taking up arms against you, you are a cosmic master troll.

From American_Worker:

If you got Buddhists ethnically cleansing yo ass, you probably have yourself to blame.

I... ... yeah, okay. I can't argue with that one. Provided we're talking about the people actually doing the provoking, of course.

That one, however, I very much can argue with. Murdering innocent people cannot be justified with a simple "they started it". Or a "the guy down the road who sort of looks like them started it", in this case.

Where does this idea come from that all buddhists are super-pacifists?

Weren't the guys who bombed Pearl Habour buddhist? (and shinto as well I believe)

@Brenj:
Because of Hippies and New Agers romanticising exotic "Eastern" religions.

@Brenj

Not everyone in the Japanese Air Force was Buddhist. Stop generalizing.

The whitewashed vision of Buddhism that we're used to has created a distorted image. It means those that don't bother assessing a situation cannot comprehend that people within Buddhism can still succumb to the same tribalistic hatred as others, even if the victims are from a religion which is typically more violent.

Tamil Tigers is a terrorist organization, Buddhist if I am not mistaken. While most Buddhists are peaceful, as with any group there are violent ones. Also Kingpink2ITL and American_Worker should know these guys are killing innocent people. Then again I guess they do not give a shit about that

Tamil Tigers does not represent all Buddhists, Westboro Baptist Church does not represent all Christians, and ISIS does not represent all Muslims. Stop generalizing, folks!!

Where was there generalizing?

Proof positive that all groups have their psychos.

Buddhists is mostly peaceful but allows violence in self-defense.

Unfortunately; Some freaks in Buddhist leadership positions have twisted it into "Pogroms against innocent people are awesome because a few professing their faith were brutal dillweeds".

Tibet even once had a reputation as a brutal, feudalist dictatorship where the Buddhist Monks and Lamas ruled in the least "Buddhist" way. To the present Dalai Lama's credit, he was going to try to remedy all that but then the Chinese got in the way.

Sadly; Even Buddhism can be twisted into a violent thing....LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PEACEFUL, UNCONDITIONALLY LOVING AND FORGIVING FAITH-PATH CALLED CHRISTIANITY! The most gentle and peacenik of the Big Three Abrahamic Faiths is ironically the one indirectly responsible for the most brutality, bloodshed, infighting, genocide, imperialism, sexism, homophobia, etc. in the past 1700+ years!

The problem is that these paths have self-defense provisions for violence or are an offshoot of a less-peacenik religion (even absorbing the former's scripture and mythology) but not extra stuff written to close up the loopholes that monsters in charge can twist and abuse.

What REALLY "gets" me is that this latest persecution of Burmese Muslims gets the stamp of approval from a woman who was considered a great Burmese Civil Rights hero who was herself persecuted by the cruel Military Junta before her. I could never understand why the persecuted would become persecutors. You'd think they would be more empathetic.
