Quote# 134210

The thing is that this "gender identity" nonsense is based on a theory of "inborn natural sexual roles" that would make the Victorians seem as flexible as acrobats. Do you like to dance? Why then you are a girl. Please ignore the number of men that have been dancers through out history. Do you like to build things? Why then you are a boy. Please ignore the women who have built and invented things in history.

Churchy LaFemme

Since there are no "inborn natural sexual roles," absolutely nothing is based on them. Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean you can't learn the facts about it.

this has literally nothing to do to gender identity.

This is an argument against rigid gender roles. Why is it here?

The Angry Dybbuk

@ Wanderer: It's an argument against the existence of transsexuality based on the claim that people are pigeonholed as 'the other sex' if they simply enjoy activities traditionally linked to the other sex.

The argument is (a) hypocritical, as it likely comes from someone who supports gender-based employment restrictions; and (b) dumb, because a girl saying, 'I like to build things' is not a route to years of painful surgery, hormone therapy, and social ostracism.

So many women in WWII would like a word with you.

Russell Crowe has made Knitting ultra-manly.

Chuck Yeager & test pilot colleague Jacqueline Cochran. To this day he encourages women to enter the field of Aeronautics. Jacqueline proves that women can have The Right Stuff.

'Gender Roles'? They don't exist.

Also, Boudica & Queen Elizabeth I.

Gender socialisation, that's all it is.

I hope that some men like to dance, since they're supposed to guide you, in traditional ballroom dancing.

As for women building things, there was Florence Mary Taylor, draughtsperson and Australia's first woman architect. She graduated in 1904, and later finished her articles. She designed the beautiful Mortuary Station, among other things.

There there was Marion Mahony Griffin, one of the world's first woman architects, in her own right. She graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1894. Later, in 1911, she married Walter Burley Griffin, and they worked together to design Canberra, our capital city.
