(commenting on story "US general says nuclear launch order can be refused")
(Fox News story cut and pasted, original is here: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2017/11/18/us-general-says-nuclear-launch-order-can-be-refused.html )
Lady Checkmate:
I question his ability to fulfill the requirements of his position. Perhaps the potus should consider immediately removing him from his position.
JohnGaltDurham:
No this is a basic tenant of military training. A soldier has an obligation to stand down from any illegal order. Such as, launch a nuke at Los Angeles, or shoot a political adversary for no other reason. This is very important and something that should be taken very seriously.
For example by military code of conduct the pilots that flew plane loads of cash to Iran should have refused to do so. It was an illegal action on several.different levels, and it would not surprise me if some pilots did refuse or took a lot of convincing as to why it was not illegal.
Lady Checkmate:
No, that's not what we're discussing and you don't tell me how to comment.
I stand by my comment. That troll is letting the world know he will challenge Trump just for the heck of it and because it may curry favor with the alt-left. The last thing we need is a rogue, treasonous donkey holding the switch and refusing to flip the switch because he wants to show other trolls that he can pull rank against Trump (especially when American lives are at risk). And for the record you lost me after your first sentence, so the rest wasn't read ;)

I would even go further and claim that you only read until "No", detected objection and instantly banned him.
Heh. Yeah, you get to be a general because you pander to the leftists.
That's the path to glory and power for those of us in the military, making the liberals love us, for the benefits of rank AND for high-paying, post-service jobs with those leftists organizations.
hilarious.
And, no, one doesn't refuse orders just for the heck of it. Our training CONCENTRATES on following orders, all orders, all the time. There's a brief sop to refusing illegal orders in our training, just to cover the military's ass. So after shit hits the fan, the leaders can say 'he should have known to refuse' and insulate themselves.
But all of our exercises are conditioning in obedience. It would have to be a very egregious mistake to get someone to refuse an order, especially a general. He's got a LOT to lose if the investigation decides that the order was correct.
“And for the record you lost me after your first sentence, so the rest wasn't read ;)”
Nyah, nyah, nyah in other words, right, Lady C? “You wanted me to see this, but I stopped reading so I didn’t! Take THAT! So THERE!”
Christ, she’s like a fucking five year old.
So you say that members of the US Armed Forces should obey all orders without question: Yes or No?
Certain actions in Vietnam. Not far off from what the SS did in WWII: they're known as War Crimes. In both instances, the rest is history.
As part of history, a certain defence used repeatedly: during the Nuremberg Trials. Who gave them those orders? I suggest you do some research on one part of the Third Reich. Google 'Abwehr '. The rest is history II.
Checkmate, Lady.
@Jocasta McFucken
;)
That is the most telling part of all.
She's basically becoming Loony4Life Mk. II
The stupidity of people amazes me, no wonder you're all scared down there. The President, any president can't decide all on his own to launch nuclear weapons, never could, there are channels of safeguard to go through.
That's what this General came out to say, about the forth statement from the Pentagon since tweeter in chief took office to make it clear to the public that the president cant do this.
A crazed sub commander probably could though, I hope there's some code lock on those too though.
And for the record you lost me after your first sentence, so the rest wasn't read ;)
Sums up Lady Checkmate's problem in a nutshell.
No, that's not what we're discussing and you don't tell me how to comment.
But...if you didn't read after the first sentence...
@Canadiest
"A crazed sub commander probably could though, I hope there's some code lock on those too though."
One of the critical keys necessary for launching nuclear weapons on a submarine is locked in a safe that no one on board has the combination for.
The same message that gives us permission to launch gives us the combination. It's part of our verification. If the launch command has the right combination, it must have come from the proper sources.
it would not surprise me if some pilots did refuse or took a lot of convincing as to why it was not illegal.
I would not be surprised if some pilots retired quite handsomely.
Remember the $9,000,000,000 pallet of money that disappeared in Iraq?
Nobody knew what to do with it, they were throwing bricks of it around
like a football. I think I could have figured out something to do with part of it.
Well, it was us sending them their money, from accounts that were seized, without actually lifting the sanctions that led to the seizure. And if the money was not part of a deal to get hostages released, the coincidence of timing was pretty outrageous. So it looked like we were promoting the kidnapping of our citizens by paying off kidnappers.
So, some people were concerned that future hostages would be taken to get more money.
Some people were just concerned that there was insufficient transparency on the whole transaction, including just what the fuck the transaction was.
None of this really strikes me as something a pilot's going to consider during his preflight. I mean, they would have said 'this cargo goes to this airfield,' not 'this cargo goes to this airfield so that they'll sign the nuclear treaty and release hostages, in violation of seven Congressional sanctions and with insufficient civilian oversight.'
@Keith
The problem lies with "how things look" and people's (read: right wingers) willingness to spin everything into an Obama conspiracy like Trump did for years. Anyone who wanted to bother looking up the facts, just like with all this Uranium One smokescreen bullshit, could find out the truth if they cared to look.
The money being returned was directly related to specific sanctions over their nuclear program, the timing notwithstanding. All other sanctions remain in place.
No, Donald Trump, we are not giving Iran $150 billion for 'nothing'
Confused?
