Translation: When there is something to obtain, they throw their principles and rules of faith overboard.

Just so you know, they're pretty much the alt-right with us. And aren't even that popular.
Though by american standards, they're still probably considered left...
Personally, I think it's heartwarming and shows that different cultures and faiths can intermingle without problems. But, eh, what do I know.
FYI, the bearded guy is Sinterklaas, aka Saint-Nicholas. You know, origins of Santa?
When there is something to obtain, they throw their principles and rules of faith overboard.
Why, that would be like, I dunno, a Christian supporting sexual predators and child molesters, or something like that. Thank goodness that can never happen [/sarcasm]
Yeah, because Sinterklaas is all about not showing charity and grace to those whom society spits on and rejects. He totally wasn't the patron saint of underdogs, misfits, prostitutes or anything.
Also, I'm pretty sure she's just there for her kids. Kind of doubt the mom actually believes in Sinterklaas, and only wants to do something to make her kids smile. You know, like a decent human being would.

Dutch, actually. My grandfather and uncles used to rotate who would play Sinterklaas for the family Christmases, and one of my legion of cousins would be wrangled into playing Svarte Piete. Dear god, I hope that tradition was clubbed to death like a baby seal, nobody wants to see white kids in blackface. Except the GOP, I suppose.
When kids like imaginary beings, good parents manage to see beyond their own religion, and make their kids happy.
There is very little religion left in Christmas, really. Besides, it was a pagan new-year festival before the birth of Christ was pushed into it.
Televangelists in the US are very good at the "throwing their principles and rules of faith overboard", if there is money to gain or votes to be had. The fundies screech that sex is only to be within the bonds of marriage and girls who stray are sluts. But older men who assault young women are somehow upstanding citizens who should be voted into government...
So when Christians voted a thrice divorced unrepentant sinner that was ok? Or were their beliefs those of convenience?
As a note: to me it looks like a happy family. Because they can enjoy season. Far more than the crowd crying "It's Merry Christmas not happy holidays!!! Stop persecuting my beliefs!!" Not to mention good parents encourage this kind of multicultural actions
@Mithras
Actually, he was Greek. The Seljuk migration hadn't taken place yet and Anatolia only became Turkish after the Battle of Manzikert. Though, these folk wouldn't be able to tell the difference between them.

Dutch, actually.
Hmmm, then why is the page "Vlaams" (= Flanders) and the sign on the right in the background in French? Flanders + French sure sounds like Belgium to me. The picture may, however, actually be from France and only posted on a Flemish page. No Dutch here, even if the language is Flemish Dutch. ;-)
Nikolaos of Myra is from Turkey .
Later Saint Nicholas: patron saint of children .
Enjoy your paradox, Blarms Belong Repellent.
Wanting this gooey gelloof overboard? I do.

Ah, missed that. Although I suppose it would make sense that the Dutch and Belgians share more than a few traditions, given their shared history and language.
Or the people in the picture could be Dutch, and the person commenting on it could be Belgian, or a million other scenarios I haven't thought of.
Confused?
