Is Columbus Day National Discrimination Against Flat-Earthers Day?

My day has been filled with people who normally don't even mention the subject gratuitously declaring that the Earth is not flat in my presence. I've seen and heard it mentioned several times in the media, colleagues have referred to it in mocking tones, and several neighbors who know I'm a flat earth believer have pointed fingers at and laughed at me while children were present.

Nevermind, of course, that there's zero connection between Columbus and the shape of the Earth in the first place.

If people disagree with my opinions, I'm fine with that. I'll try to help them see the truth, but if they can't I'll leave them alone about it. Yet it seems perfectly acceptable to treat flat-Earthers as a group like we were Gypsies.

I'll get over it, but I sure hate this incredibly stupid holiday.

Yes, I'm sure people laughing at the village idiot is exactly like antiziganism. I'm just sure that those folks who associate with you for more than three months at a time are being sentenced to death for being contaminated, your children are being separated from you because of your "subversive" lifestyle, and entire nations are regularily engaging in cultural purges of your ilk. Just like the fucking Roma. Just like a group of people that have actually traveled around the world. While you sit in one spot and squint at the fucking horizon.

Yes, this is indeed wrong. Gypsies should be treated way better than flat-earthers.

"...several neighbors who know I'm a flat earth believer have pointed fingers at and laughed at me while children were present."

See, that's nowhere near how you should be treated.

Awww, that's sad. You're hypersensitive (about a non-holiday like Columbus Day, no less) as well as being intellectually and scientifically retarded.

Now 'splain to me how it can possibly be night here and daylight on the other side of a flat earth. And why it is that the force of gravity allows people (or plumb bobs) to stand upright whether they live in the far north (near the center of gravity of a flat earth) or live in the far south (so far from the flat earth's center of gravity that they should be standing at a sharp angle).

Yes, you are being mocked for refusing to accept that the earth is a round ellipsoid in spite of all the evidence to prove it.

You're not being persecuted by others, you're being ridiculed for being dumb.

You don't like Columbus because it reminds you that even back then, people believed in a round ball earth, and Columbus' discovery of what is now the West Indies all started on a theory that they could travel westward and eventually make it to India that way.

Wow talk about being right for the wrong reasons. Dino is right that what Columbus did had nothing to do with proving the Earth was round.

I don't know how to treat Gypsies. Don't know if I've ever seen one.

I do know how to treat morons, though. Pointing and laughing certainly seems like a good start...

Typical flattard: Duh, the Sun's a magic spotlight, and there's no such thing as gravity!

I'll try to help them see the truth

When USAF pilots of Lockheed SR-71s saw one simple fact...:

...then don't bother 'trying'.

When Dr. Buzz Aldrin saw more than what the above pilot did at 70,000 feet: and he's a Conservative Christian, don't bother. Period.

Facts destroy 'Truth'.

I don't know, but I think we need a National Discrimination Against Flat-Earthers Day.

@Anon-e-moose:

Ah, that's just a camera with a fish-eye lens making it look like the earth has a curve...

I really don't see any 'discrimination' here. Are you not allowed to shop in certain places because you're a Flattie?
Are flattie books banned from libraries, bookstores, Amazon?
Are known flatties forced to wear a pink star? So we can keep them from visiting natural museums and observatories?

You have an opinion. It's a stupid opinion. People point and laugh. Just like they would if you had a big effort every year to try to catch the Easter Bunny. Or an annual Santa Claus watch.
Not discrimination, though.

WHen a car salesman won't let you buy something with GPS features installed, because that's impossible on a flat Earth and you're a flattie, then you might have a point.
