Ah. Well here in Texas, YEC's are pretty common. Majority of my friends believe the book of Genesis to be literal, as do I. My country in general though? About the same... social media on the other hand. It seems to embolden the atheists since the risk of experiencing rightous retribution for showing dissent towards creation is lower. OEC's aren't as common but can still be an annoyance.
Referring to what I think should change? I'd still tart putting regulations on anti YEC speech. At first it would be little things like paying a fine if caught mocking or scoffing at the validity of Genesis. If that's not enough to quell the majority of anti creationist sentiment in society, I'd go with more extreme punishments. Community service, public humiliation, jail time, and even short prison sentences for the most notorious offenders.

YEC = a minority of a minority, no matter how many you actually know in your teeny tiny corner of the universe. If anybody gets their speech censored, it would be you. Now think again and tell me if you think censorship is a good idea.

OEC's are annoying? I would have thought YEC's are the most annoying for a YE-er. Because even within YEC, there's the literal seven-day creation, or the age-day creation, different select PARTS of Genesis are taken literally, varying from flavor to flavor of YE-er.
So why is it that Dr. Buzz Aldrin never questioned the veracity of findings by NASA scientists on that which was brought back by his Apollo 15 astronaut colleagues? Specifically, the 'Genesis Rock':

To be honest, I have never knowingly met a young earth creationist in my entire life. I know one person who is rumored to be one, but he never said anything in that direction in my presence. He's a Southerner though, so I guess it's not impossible.

On social media, there are a lot of people with higher education, and we tend to be atheists to a higher degree than people with little or no education.
I don't think I've ever met a YEC person in real life. I probably have met a couple of OEC's.
In a Gallup Poll in 2009, about 17 percent of the Swedes said "Yes, religion is important in my life".
Most Swedes don't even care enough to call themselves atheists. It's just completely irrelevant to them.
