What Tucker and honest conservatives don't understand is that politicians can never be counted on to lead a country. Throughout history, politicians and businessmen have always been scum. Only religious leaders can guide a society. They do this by giving the masses sound values. Then in a functional democracy, the masses vote out politicians who are too bad. So politicians behave reasonably only for fear of being voted out of office. Without sound religion, all of this breaks down as we see in America.

What Tucker and honest conservatives don't understand
I could write a book on everything Tucker Carlson doesn't understand.
And, this is because there has never once been a piece of scum among religious leaders? Not one, really, ever, who, oh, got caught embezzling church funds while schtupping the secretary . . . who by the way was not his wife? Who used church funds to openly spend on one of the largest houses in the city and his own private plane, but refused to allow storm refugees into his perfectly functioning mega-church? Who's been caught with underage male prostitutes after years of slamming homosexuals and demanding their mass incarceration and forced conversion therapy?
The very religious ancient Greeks invented Democracy. The Greek Orthodox Church today.

Get back in your Milk Crate, fschit. Your 'argument' breaks down like what's in said crate left in the Athens sun on the Parthenon: a religious structure.
'Milk Crate'? Your 'religion' has gone off.
No wonder you're whey off the mark when you're reduced to being cheesy .
...oh, and the religiously -led Ireland, with the RCC's religion -based sound 'values': until those 'leaders' were castrated from 2015.
The Power of the People - Democracy - ensures that religions are subject to absolute rule over that which previously ruled them. Because over 60% of Ireland realised that Paedophilia wasn't 'sound values'.
The 'sound values' you spoonfed Mary Jane Lick Sick: that inferior subhuman reduced to being a paedo edgelord. Thanks for proving that Atheism - with it's sounder values - is more than infinitely superior to you & anything you can say.
Religious leaders are just as much scum as politicians and businessmen. Power corrupts, dearie, power corrupts.
Ordering the killing of people for not worshiping the same god in exactly the same way is NOT "sound values".
(See inquisitions and, well, the whole of the Dark Ages, the Troubles in Ireland, the fights between Shia and Sunni, between Christians and Muslims and Jews, for reference.)
In what way do you keep religious leaders to behave reasonably? You don't vote on them, do ya?
America is one of the most outspoken religious countries in the world, and you almost HAVE TO be religious to get into office. A clear example that even WITH religion, it all breaks down by corrupt power; people only focusing on enriching themselves, instead of working for the people.
@Swede
A nitpick: The inquisitions only really took off in the Late Middle Ages (13th century and after). The Dark Ages (AKA the Early Middle Ages, which lasted until about 1000 AD) were a period of relatively little religious persecution (of heretics or witches) and only very sporadic proto-inquisitorial activity. The conflation of the inquisitions (especially the Roman/Papal Inquisition and the Spanish Inquisition, which are the most famous ones) with the Dark Ages that exists in the popular imagination does not, in fact, bear much resemblance to reality as far as historians who have studied the subject and the period can tell.
" Throughout history, politicians and businessmen have always been scum."
Okay, cool, so now The Faithful will quit claiming that the US was founded on Religious Principles? Because it's built by political scum...
Oh really! Why don't you move over to Iran or Saudi Arabia, then, if you like theocracies so much?
Religious leaders guiding a society has led to everything from the Inquisition and its tortures and public burnings, to today with ISIL and their public beheadings, stonings and still, some burnings. So that sounds like a BRILLIANT IDEA! {And my sarcasm would blister your whole paint job.}
Thank Zeus for those pagan Greeks and their demokratia.
@Anon-e-moose : he looks like that weird uncle the rest of the family doesn't talk about because he's not allowed within 500 meters of a school.
In other words, he looks exactly like I expected.
OK, first all you different churches get together and agree on all points of doctrine. The unified church will then have leaders who speak for all the people.
<** several millennia pass **>
Still waiting...
