Quote# 142648

When in heaven, the elect will look upon those in hell.

And those in hell, will serve the elect, by being a display of God’s infinite wrath, to help the elect savor God’s infinite grace, to the praise of his glory.

Isaiah 66:22-24. Romans 9:22-23.

And of course people who subscribe to ideas like that assume they're going to be on the winnning side of eternity and forever gloat on the rest.

Romans 7:1.

In the words of Pvt. Hudson (Bill Paxton) in "Aliens", 'You're on an express elevator to Hell: Going DOWN!'.

Ad it's we who'll watch you on that metaphorical dropship as you realise that it's 'Game Over, man!'.

You're off your nut, mate.

Any relation to Chris Chan ?

Y'see Brian, that's the kind of biblical claptrap that sends thinking people as far away from religion as possible. The carrot and the stick ...but we are not frightened of an imaginary hell, nor are we enticed by an imaginary heaven.

Sorry, but you are a complete failure as an evangelist.

Doubting Thomas

What's the point in serving as a display of God's wrath when the elect are already enjoying the reward of Heaven? Just sounds like the elect get to thumb their noses at the damned for eternity. And what's so glorious about God torturing souls for eternity? That's just psychopathic torture worship.

3/3/2019 7:20:33 AM

Nice superiority complex. What happened to humility ? Not christian enough, perhaps.

3/3/2019 8:34:10 AM

Sounds more like you plan to gloat at their misery and be prideful of your luck.

Wait, isn't Pride one of the Seven Deadly Sins...?
And gloating at misery is hardly on Jesus' ToDo-list.

Both Heaven and Hell sounds like horrible places, actually.
One is infinite suffering, but that's going to be boring pretty soon.
The other is just infinite praise of God's glory, and that even sounds boring from the start.
At least Hell seems to be the place with the interesting company...

Thinking Allowed

Hey, I can quote bible verses too. This one is mu favorite.

Isaiah 45:7 (KJV)

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

So if you all want to hang out with the one who created evil, be my guest. After all, he created lies too in order get you to buy into his exclusive gated community.

Why Hypercalvinism is a theology for sociopaths, part 156729.

3/3/2019 10:45:36 AM

And those in Heaven are trapped forever with a tyrannical, sexually depraved omnipotent demiurge, forced to continuously praise his mercy and flatter him as well as possibly subject themselves to his perverted whims for all eternity.

Ever seen "It's a Good Life" episode of the Twilight Zone? It will be like that. Exactly like that.

That's a Hell in and of itself.

3/3/2019 3:29:16 PM

What everyone else, here said.

Any truly Christ-like Christian would also look upon the souls in Hell as a tragedy, not a gloat-fest.

Me? I'll take NeoPaganism over what you're peddling, any day!

3/3/2019 3:43:53 PM

Also, in its glorious tradition of contradiction, the bible says the departed will immediately forget about earth and have no idea of hell. Aholes.

3/3/2019 4:59:40 PM

So if I'm in heaven, and I see a loved one suffering in hell, that's going to make me "savor God's infinite grace" more...?

3/3/2019 5:36:06 PM

So basically you're sociopaths following a psychopath. Hence yet another reason I was turned away from Christianity

3/3/2019 6:12:11 PM

...actually, I should've said 'Matthew 7:1'. Brain fart on my part. But the Unitarian Universalists would forgive me: and not just my slight mistake with Scripture. They would even forgive you, Bri. After all: To err is human, to forgive Divine.

When mere mortals are far more Christian than even the fundies' own 'God', there is no hope for you, OP: and all your ilk.

But when there are ex-fundies who are commenters here in FSTDT, seems the UUs are right after all.

3/3/2019 8:29:13 PM

So we should be happy to be the election because at least we're not with those poor bastards who are being tortured for all eternity. Way to make God look loving.

3/3/2019 9:45:05 PM

The people of Salem practiced this kind of Christianity. They ended up hanging 19 people and two dogs, not to mention heaping stones on an 80-year-old man for 3 days until he died.

This sort of theology does not make for acceptable mental health.

Pharaoh Bastethotep

What is wrong with these people?!?

3/3/2019 11:58:08 PM

Considering what Jesus taught, I doubt those boobs were following the theology correctly to begin with.

But I agree that The Bible often presents a Deity who's an authoritarian maniac but I tend to attribute those portions of the Bible to the Demiurge that the real Deity.

While I respect the Nazarene and like to present a more Liberal take on religions, I still am a NeoPagan who sees religions as human-made but see the basic components as genuine.

I take a Universalist Interfaith approach while stripping down everything to their basic components. I find common themes and metaphysical concepts (without the culture-specific elements and of organized religions).

I should consider a UU Church. There's some that have a NeoPagan group thing (It's called Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans or CUUPs).

Fuck that. We ain't serving no one.
You can shove his glory right up his ...

Churchy LaFemme

When in heaven, the elect will look upon those in hell.

Will there be stadium seating with refreshments or like 24-7 cable where you can tune in on individual people from the comfort of your own mansion? It makes a difference as to whether I want to be in heaven or hell.

Do they get supplied with popcorn, or maybe meat pies? No I don't care, fk your beliefs!
