I agree with Jo, they have human rights that are the same as anyone else. No one denies gay people anything unless it's marriage-related. It's understandable why gay people can't adopt, every child needs a mother and father if given the opportunity.. instead of having to be ridiculed by ignorant people all throughout their childhood for having gay parents. Gay people have more rights than my father does, he can't even vote all because of a non-violent felony from when he was younger. No one has tried telling gay people they can't vote... THEN our country would be denying them their human rights.

Well, are you hinting that just because your father is straight and gays are not they are denied the most basic rights?, do you think your father is superior to them?. Besides, you expect us to be sympathetic to your dad, what about being sympathetic to them who have done NOTHING?. Besides, I do understand what it means to be ridiculised by ignorant people(tell my children)but it´s those people fault, NOT GAY PEOPLE.
Unsupported assumption: very child needs a mother and father if given the opportunity
Truth: the child, for the full and harmonious development of his or her personality, should grow up in a family environment, in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding,
the child should be fully prepared to live an individual life in society, and brought up in the spirit of the ideals proclaimed in the Charter of the United Nations, and in particular in the spirit of peace, dignity, tolerance, freedom, equality and solidarity,
From the preamble to Convention on the Rights of the Child
having to be ridiculed by ignorant people all throughout their childhood for having gay parents
Maybe the answer to this kind of boneheaded ignorance often demonstrated by fundies is just the kind of education so often opposed by the same.
It's understandable why gay people can't adopt, every child needs a mother and father if given the opportunity.
Divorce denies more children that opportunity than gay adoption would - and by definition, if the kid's up for adoption they don't have a mother and father right now!
Start reducing the divorce rate (which is highest in the Bible Belt, btw) and adopting all those kids, and then we'll talk. Put up or shut up.
"...instead of having to be ridiculed by ignorant people all throughout their childhood for having gay parents."
So it's the people being ridiculed who have to change, not the people who do the actual ridiculing? Way to go to bring a change for the better about. I suppose in your world true happiness can only be achieved by transforming the human race into one homogeneous, monolithic, indistinguishable, averaged out mass of featureless "individuals".
Besides, don't give me this "having to be ridiculed" b.s., kids will always find one way or another to ridicule each other. Either you are too fat, too skinny, your ears are too big, your nose too long, etc. The job of loving parents (regardless of their sexual orientation) is to give their children support and make them mentally strong enough to shrug it off.
and secondly:
"...have human rights that are the same ..."
vs.
"...unless it's marriage-related."
You can see that those two sentences are mutually exclusive, right?
It's understandable why gay people can't adopt, every child needs a mother and father if given the opportunity.. instead of having to be ridiculed by ignorant people all throughout their childhood for having gay parents.
Translation: You shouldn't let gays adopt because I will make fun of them.
"It's understandable why gay people can't adopt, every child needs a mother and father if given the opportunity.. "
This isn't well supported. A lot of children live with only one parent, and they turn out fine. A lot of children who live with a mother and a father are screwed up. Who they live with doesn't matter as much as the quality of the parenting and the care they are given. You and your ilk are crying "save the children" to garner support for your own brand of bigotry.
"instead of having to be ridiculed by ignorant people"
Like you?
"all throughout their childhood for having gay parents."
So the only problem children of gay parents would face is other people's bigotry? That's a perfect reason not to give someone rights. [sarcasm]After all, everybody knows black people didn't fight for equal rights because it would have subjected them to so much ridicule.[/sarcasm]
These people, like so many groups before them, are struggling for the same rights as everyone else because it's one of the basic principles of our nation that everyone is equal and everyone has the same rights. The only thing standing between them and the rights they deserve is the bigotry and hate that's been ingrained into society by people like you.
"Gay people have more rights than my father does, he can't even vote all because of a non-violent felony from when he was younger."
Hate to break this to you, but that's your dad's fault, not the gays. He made a mistake and he's dealing with the consequences. If a gay man broke the law in your state he'd be subjected to the same penalties as straight people.
@Napoleon the Clown
A kid doesn't need a dick and a vagina to care for it, just two loving adults that pay attention to its needs.
Yes, but if a kid DID have a dick and a vagina, the kid would then be a hermaphrodite.
instead of having to be ridiculed by ignorant people all throughout their childhood for having gay parents.
Yyyyyyeah. It reminds me of talk shows I've seen, where someone's relatives are speaking out against their interracial relationship. Why? Not because they're at all racist, of course, but because there are some OTHER ignorant people who would be assholes to a child of mixed race. They're just trying to protect them!
Last time I had an argument on internet was on a gay guy's blog for the same reason as Chrissy.
I was persuaded that it was bad for the kid to be raised without a motherly/fatherly figure.
But the people I spoke with were very comprehensive and gave me proof of my error.
No psychologist, psychiatrist or child care person will tell you that to be raised by an homosexual couple is bad for the children as long as there is love and understanding in the familly.
What is bad is people like you that make fun of such couple denying them the basic rights to be happy.
I despise you and your kind Chrissy. Get out of my internet.
Yeah, gay people have all the same rights as everyone else, except the ones that we don't want them to have because they're icky. Oh, and we like to harass them, and sometimes beat them to death. But at least they can vote, unlike Chrissy's daddy who broke the law . But it was just a non-violent felony, so that should be okay, right?
Fuck you sideways.
It seems to have become quite a common pattern for a lesbian couple to have a child with a gay man donating sperm, and the man then having involvement in the child's life, although the 2 women are the primary caregivers.
The child effectively has 3 loving parents of 2 genders - arguably an even better situation than children with 1 male, 1 female parent.
What your daddy did is irrelevent. He broke the law, this is part of the punishment. Sorry if you don't like that. So if you're daddy decides to poke his own eyes out, that doesn't mean that sighted people have more rights then him. HE did it to HIMSELF.
The only ridicule a child would face due to the fact that he/she has gay parents would come from uneducated, brainwashed and arrogant folk such as yourself.
Based on your superiour attitude, I wouldn't let you vote OR adopt.
But, Chrissy, the right to marry and to adopt are basic human rights just like the right to vote in a democracy. Denying people who never committed a crime any of their human rights is wrong. You can't just pick and choose which human rights you're going to grant and which you're going to withhold.
And your father fucked up, which is why he's being denied his rights. Nobody here has a problem with that.
I agree with Jo, they have human rights that are the same as anyone else.
If you mean gays, you're wrong.
No one denies gay people anything unless it's marriage-related.
"We don't deny them anything except what we do deny them." That's kind of a tautology. At least you admit you deny rights to gay people, despite claiming otherwise one sentence ago.
It's understandable why gay people can't adopt...
Gay people can't adopt? Tell that to my adopted cousin.
...every child needs a mother and father if given the opportunity...
Incorrect. Any loving family will work. If you believe otherwise, please visit my cousins. (One by blood, her female partner by [unofficial] marriage, and their adopted daughter.) Tell them that their adopted daughter needs a mother and a father, and thus she should be sent back to an orphanage in Cambodia where she will live in poverty and have neither.
Of course, you believe that abusive parents who beat up their kids are fine and dandy as long as they're heterosexual.
...instead of having to be ridiculed by ignorant people all throughout their childhood for having gay parents.
So gay people should be denied rights because "somebody" might make fun of them? Why should gay people be persecuted because you want to be a jerk?
Gay people have more rights than my father does, he can't even vote all because of a non-violent felony from when he was younger.
Look, if your father commit a crime, his inability to vote is his own damn fault. Sexual orientation is inborn, but your father chose to commit a crime.
No one has tried telling gay people they can't vote...
Gay people who commit felonies cannot vote. Straight people who do not break the law can vote. Sexual orientation has no relevance.
Funny, they're usually complaining that we liberals compare criminals to innocents as if they were both people.
THEN our country would be denying them their human rights.
Quite right. Gay people are not being denied any meaningful rights. They're even allowed to marry. Sure, they're not allowed to marry the person they love, but their allowed to marry someone of the opposite gender just like anyone else. Besides, they're allowed to vote between two candidates who oppose same-sex marriage! They have some nerve complaining that they're not allowed to marry some specific person they love when Christians are denied the right to vote simply because they believe the law doesn't apply to them and act accordingly! Gays should just enjoy the rights they have!

Here's 5 dollars so you can replace the sarcasm meter I just shattered.
It's understandable why gay people can't adopt, every child needs a mother and father if given the opportunity.. instead of having to be ridiculed by ignorant people all throughout their childhood for having gay parents.
Right. I'm perfectly fine with gay people adopting, but my cousin Vinnie here gets upset when he sees gay people adopt and when he gets upset, he breaks fings. So if you let gay people adopt, he may start breaking fings. I'm your pal, Chrissy, I'm just looking out for you. I'm trying to protect you.
Oh, and you still owe us 200 bucks for "protection" last week. If it's not here by tomorrow, you'd better be careful when you start your car.
I had a pair of heterosexual parents - the perfect situation, according to this bitch. One dick, one vagina, both of them abusive and uncaring. Was that better than being raised by a homosexual couple who loved and valued me?
No.
If you truly care about the children, let them have loving homes. Don't let them suffer through a nightmare like mine. Don't make them carry the physical and mental scars for the rest of their lives.
But that wouldn't let you use children as weapons against the gays, and we can't have that!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
