BECAUSE IF THEY ARE NOT THUGS, if the police commited a mistake, whose the fault?(it could be YOU). Of course they do. Because until they are tried and convicted in a court of law, in the USA they aren't guilty of anything. That's the way it works, and it doesn't work that way to protect the rights of criminals, it works that way to protect the rights of innocent people. The rights of the actual criminal are revoked when they are sentenced.

Just because a law dates back to the 1600s doesn't mean it's a good law, or that it should stand forever. Societies change, values change, laws change. Change is a fact of life.
