I agree that things started a long time ago because I can think of things when I went to school. One of the first things I can remember being taught is myths and tall tales. I think these teachings at such an early age made me confuse mythology and the tall tales with the bible stories, like Jonah being swallowed by a fish, and David and Goliath. In a child's mind, it's hard to decipher truth from fiction, especially when the biblical stories have supernatural experiences.
I think that's one of the ways secular teaching gets into the minds of children to question what they've been taught.
