It's just like all the theories about how the dinosaurs died, no one is absolutely sure so you are usually taught at least 2 of the prefered theories. But to call this some stupid conservative thing really just highlights why people think liberal thinkers are the antichrist. The main problem with it, is that the school board made a decision on what to teach in Science class not based on science but what they "felt" was correct. Science isn't about feelings, it's about facts data and experiments. Outlawing theories is un-American and can only lead to a closed minded society that has a problem grasping difficult new concepts.

Well Brick Wall (apropriate name), you're wrong, but for the sake of argument, let's assume you're right. That would mean that we should also teach our children about Ymir, the primordial cow who licked the world into existence. And it should be given no less emphasis than the christian creation theory. Now if you are willing to do that, I might hear you out, otherwise, you are a hypocrite and you ideas are not worthy of consideration.

If one is going to allow creationism to be taught in public schools, one must also allow teaching creation of the world by the FSM, the pink unicorn, and by being pulled out of my nose. Fair is fair.
One of the key elements of a theory is that it is falsifiable. Creationism (and ID) are not falsifiable, because any data that does not fit with them is explained away as "God placed that there to decieve you". Because it is not a theory, it has no place being taught alongside evolution. We can teach creationism once you and some reputable scientists A) agree on some verifiable, repeatable experiment to falsify creationism and B) it is not proven to be false by that experiment.

Totally off topic, but... Blake, would you mind shipping some of that snow up this way? I'm living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan -- basically Canada -- and we haven't got any snow on the ground. It's completely screwy.feet of snow! At this time of year, I used to walk to school beside snowbanks taller than myself. But now we've been surreally obeying, for weeks, an annual rule whereby we avoid parking cars on the road so that snowplows can go by and do their work, yet there is no snow. It makes the scene just out our front doors absurd.

Blake: Are you new to the area or something? I have lived in the Dallas region for my whole life, and this weather isn't nearly as apocalyptic as the news reports keep trying to make it. Nobody is outlawing anything, you alarmist idiot. Science classes teach science and religion should be left for the religion class. It is also strange that you mention the inability to grasp "difficult new concepts", as it would seem that this is exaclty what the fundies do by religiously maintaining that science is wrong.

Evolution has all kinds of evidence. The entire field of biology depends largely on it. The fossil record provides confirming evidence. Creationism, on the other hand, has ... a book written by a bunch of primitive goat-herders who knew jack shit about science, a book that is flatly contradicted by observable reality (unless you want to allow wiggle room by saying God made it look false to test us, but in doing so you would make the theory entirely unscientific).

Evolution has been proven right. Creationist are slowly making people think the opposite. Evolution has been proven right to the same extent as gravity. The fact that it isn't mathemathically proven does not mind. Of course the theory is subjected to revisions, but the fact that evolution takes place is not discussed, at least between honest people. If you think about all the different processes that work in the inside of your computer or in a modern car, it is not mathemathically proven that they will work, due to all the random processes and innacuracies. But you see them working.
Well here's the thing that most sane people look at: Creationism shouldn't be taught in school because it's not science, it's religon. If we are going to teach religious ideas on how the world was made, we should teach all of them and then let the kids decide which one is true.
The Theory of Evolution is the difficult new concept, which you people have a huge problem grasping. You're the close-minded ones, stupid.
Creation myths are the old, outdated "theories", from when people didn't know how the Universe worked.
