Ummmm, historically he is quite accurate.
Sinister comes from the latin sinstre - left handed. Dextrous comes from the word for right handed. (Too lazy to look it up) And the handicapped (including people with broken stones) were not allowed in the Lord's temple! Thanks for posting that - I'd forgotten it (then again, it's been donkey's years since I've read the bible and I've no particular wish to pick up the vile tome in the near future...)

It looks to me, according to this, that only absolutely perfect, unblemished individuals are welcome to approach this tyrant deity. So no short or long-sighted people, no-one with a birthmark or even a mole (or freckle?) - which I assume is what 'anything superfluous' would mean, take to the extreme - or a scar of any kind... Isn't that going to exclude, oh, I don't know, 99.9999(however many 9s is appropriate, I don't do numbers)% of everyone? Fundies too?

I will never understand why people would choose to acknowledge such a deity, let alone worship it...

Left-handed people can choose to write with their right hand, just as you can choose to write with your left hand. Doesn't work that well, Vera, now does it?

I have now read (or rather skimmed through) Leviticus. It's desperately boring and overwritten. Couldn't God summarize his commandment somewhat? Why go on and on and on about how to burn a sin offering of bull or lamb or dove or goat, when they are basically burned the same way, all of them?

I did find a nice verse though; Leviticus 19:33 "Never mistreat a foreigner living in your land." Guess God is against racism.

Hey, didn't God command Onan to take his brother's wife as his wife? Has God not read Leviticus? 20:21 says they will remain childless.

I can't seem to find the verse about left-handed people, or the one about men who have had a vasectomy. But, as I said, I didn't read it that thoroughly...

I am a little bit older, and I grew up in a conservative part of Europe. As a left-handed person.

Readers of FSTDT, believe me: At school and in public I was treated like "Vera Carp"'s malicious rant describes it. I was seen as not normal. I was forced to write with the right hand. I was hit physically when I tried to do something with the left hand. The bible was thrown in my face to justify this.

"Vera Carp" might be a poe, but this crazy mindset was widespread not very long ago. Please don't forget that. Please keep in mind that fundies will enact what they preach, should they come to power. We must fight that such discrimination will never happen again, be it against coloured people, homosexuals, or left-handed people.

Intresting thing about left-handedness.

I wish I could site it but I heard of this guys study on CBC radio awhile back. He was looking into left handedness, it's not even near very rare yet carrying a negative context from many cultures, when he found there was an above average number of recognized rock guitarists who are lefties.

When he zeroed in on Jimmy Hendrix he discovered that Jimmy did most things as a right hander. Left handedness wasn't absolute, further studies show most peoples use of hands depends on task. It's merely you're training of your hands that sets them with only a slight tendancy to favor one for the other early on.

The most difficult thing when playing guitar is the fingering, especially when you turn everything past 11 as Hendrix did. Hendrix controlled this with his right hand as do all left-handed players, he also used his mouth, mic stand, nose and elbow as a substitute for his left hand when strumming/picking.

Righthanded people are using their untalented hand for the hardest part of guitar skills as well.

His study also revealed one of the greatest villifiers of lefthandedness was the Christian church. No surprise there.

My left-handed grandfather told me stories about being forced to do everything with his right hand in school, and being punished by his teachers when he reverted to his left. 50 years ago, this wasn't an uncommon view to hold. At all. My mom's mother-in-law STILL believed it. And in some schools, in some places, it held on until the 70s or even the 80s.

Vera Carp here is proof that it held on quite a bit later than that. And the point of being a Poe is that no matter how outrageous it is, even if someone is faking it this time, someone else somewhere else actually, seriously, for-real-and-for-true believes it. And Vera Carp proves that, too.
