A truly atheistic worldview would be based on meaningless chaos, not on the order of natural laws.

I doubt that. You know, Atheists have morals, they just differ from yours in both content and reasoning behind why they are followed.

If you want to stereotype, fundies claim scientists are all Atheists, and they do care about the order of natural laws.

No...a truly athiestic world view would just be absent the presence or influence of any god.

You're talkin' about some kinda anarchist, Chaotic Neutral kinda thing.

12/18/2006 8:32:05 PM

\"In the beginning, everything was Chaos...\" very Biblical indeed.

12/18/2006 8:52:20 PM

No, that is incorrect. Worldviews vary from individual to individual, depending upon many factors, such as parental influences, education, employment, status and many, many others.
The only difference between you and an atheist is the atheist believes in one less god than you do.

12/18/2006 9:11:30 PM

You mean like Ayn Rand's Objectivism?

12/18/2006 9:27:52 PM

No, a truly atheistic world-view can be any world-view which doesn't include belief in a god.

Why do so many Xians think that atheists lead meaningless lives? As an atheist, I believe that one's life has as much \"meaning\" as one gives it. I don't need an imaginary friend to bestow meaning on my life.

12/18/2006 9:35:58 PM

Proof that you didn't pull that statement out of your ass please.

12/18/2006 9:41:12 PM

Because natural laws can't be deduced from observing the behavior of one's environment, or anything like that.

Napoleon the Clown

No, you're wrong.

D Laurier

What tha fuck is a \"worldview\"?
I have seen that word bounced around , and applied to anything and everything,

12/19/2006 12:22:29 AM

The Jamo

Is that because we uphold largely deterministic laws of physics? You didn't really think that one through, did you?

12/19/2006 2:00:14 AM

The fuck you say.

12/19/2006 3:20:33 AM

Yes, because the natural laws are affected by how a human's morals are. better make gravity aware, it might want to pull us up

12/19/2006 5:37:28 AM

All I've got to say about that is... Hail Eris! Kallisti! All hail Discordia! Hail hail hail hail hail!

12/19/2006 6:43:21 AM

Truly, if thou knewest the meaning of the words which thou hath spake you could come up with the correct answer.

Chaos and random events are useful - try designing a nuclear reactor or gas engine without them.

12/19/2006 8:56:49 AM

atheism - belief all theistic Gods do not exist and are merely anthropormorphical superstitions.

anarchism - look up this word, you obviously haven't heard of it!

12/19/2006 12:53:27 PM

Wouldn't an atheistic worldview be based on natural laws, and a religious one be based on supernatural laws? Just askin'...

12/19/2006 4:35:15 PM

Old Viking

There's something bad about meaningless chaos?

12/19/2006 10:25:41 PM

I agree with themann1086, and I'm going to use that point in arguments from now on: Atheism is based on natural laws and Theism is based on supernatural laws. I bet I can get a lot of mileage out of this.

12/20/2006 2:29:08 PM

I don't know why you think my position of there being no God has anything to do with how I think the world should work. Maybe I wish people would stop believing childish fantasies that result in them socially and politically oppressing their realistic opposition but I like most of the current law how it is. Atheism is not anarchism.

Science is descriptive, not prescriptive. Get the picture.

Dr. Shrinker

Pardon me but how many atheists do you know? I don't mean having casual acquaintances, I mean atheists whom you really know as individuals? Perhaps if you actually got to know a few you would think differently about them.

Yeah, like that will ever happen.

Quantum Mechanic

Order arises from chaos.
It's a mathematical fact.

11/6/2013 5:01:45 PM

Don't the natural laws include a bit of chaos?

Fundies must lead incredibly empty lives, if the only thing that makes them meaningful is their belief in God...
