Quote# 19893

The Hebrew tongue from my understanding is read backwards ie right to left. Now anything backwards is always a negative thing, and not a positive. For those who think Hebrew is the language of heaven lets search the scriptures and see what they say.

And Japanese is read top to bottom. It must be evil too.

It's only backwards from the English point of view...

Aw, hell. Why bother. If it comes from a site names King James Bible Only, there's no brain left to rationalize with.

Well, considering that's what a lot of them were originally written in, I'd say that you lose at life.

Well, what's your take on Japanese then?

And from the Hebrew point of few western languages are written backwards. Considering who had the \"authentic\" 10 commandments, and who could read them, I think that it's pretty clear that the KJB's English is backwards and evil.

Left to right, right to left, neither is backward when applied to the appropriate language. Those are simply arbritrary choices.

Even if heaven actually exists, who cares what \"the language of heaven\" is? Do you think your God would promote you or someone else to a paradise where you or that someone else couldn't speak the language? What a stupid God you imagine.

First prove the assertion \"anything backwards (sic) is a negative thing.\"
We're waiting.

\"The Hebrew tongue from my understanding is read backwards ie right to left. Now anything backwards is always a negative thing, and not a positive.\"

If we go by which form of written language was used first, the left-to-right habit of English makes it more likely the \"backward\" one. Seriously, either way is just an arbitrary decision; \"forward\" or \"backward\" is strictly relative.

\"For those who think Hebrew is the language of heaven lets search the scriptures and see what they say.\"

By all means, you do that. Of course, if you're searching the ORIGINAL versions of those scriptures (in Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, and possibly some Latin), I'm pretty sure you won't come up with a single thing touting the virtues of English; it didn't exist yet back then.

The Hebrew scriptures, or the English scriptures? Oh, I know, you're talking about the Arabic scriptures in the Koran, right?

Yeah, the people who wrote the Old Testament you worship actually wrote it in an evil language. Glad you cleared that up.

You can't really be this stupid can you?

1 The Hebrew LANGUAGE is read right to left.

2 Backwards relative to English which Hebrew predates by thousands of years?

3 No on second thought you really can be that stupid

How one reads depends upon the cultural context they were raised in. So if English speakers think that reading backwards is \"evil,\" then it would be so but only for them.

But then the Bible wasn't written in Elizabethan English, (it wasn't written in English at all, in fact, in Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic and Latin, instead) so why are we worried how it looks when translated into our English language?

1/26/2007 8:23:53 PM

Doctor Whom

\"God speaks the Elizabethan English in heaven\"? I smell a troll.

1/26/2007 8:45:26 PM

That's a hilarious thread. Several people arguing in COMPLETE SERIOUSNESS that the King James Bible was the first version of the bible, and that in fact God and Jesus spoke Elizabethan English to each other.

So now I know that no insulting comment I make about Fundies can EVER be an exaggeration.

The scriptures say that language was confounded at the Tower of Babel.

If the scriptures were devinely inspired, then God would have to speak to the authors in a language they understood: presumably Hebrew, since Hebrew is certainly the language that the OT was written in. The NT was written mainly in Greek. \"English\" before 1000 AD would be as unintelligible as any foreign language, and would be understood with difficulty even by 1400.

Think outside the narrow fundie box for a second there asshat. What's backwards to us is correct to them, and what's correct to us is backwards to them. In this case there is no right or wrong answer. God dosn't care what language you speak.

Hebrew is my first language. All of you are reading backwards, you negative evil people. I'm right, because that's the language that came first. So there.

Madame Scarlet

Wow, the whole original post is incredibly insane. This guy uses the reasoning that because God is the \"beginning and the end\", that the KJV is the beginning because it's the end. Even though the KJV is NOT the \"end\" in terms of being the last translation in any way at all.

This also shows a complete ignorance of how language works, and an arrogance on the part of the poster.

Witty Name Here

Wait...

Since writing right-to-left is easier for left-handed people, that means they must be evil!
