Kenji, are you gay? You really need to shut up. There's no way on earth any intelligent person would tell their kid it's ok to be homosexual. There's a book "A parent's guide to preventing homosexuality." Now I'm sure it's a bullshit book, because homosexuality is genetic, but nonetheless, the civilized world understands that being homosexual is not natural. And I don't feel like celebrating my differences. I'm white and Christian, and I like it. If you're black and atheist and gay, fine with me. I'll still hire you if you're qualified, but I'm not going to celebrate with you.

This HAS to be a Poe.
Otherwise: "Homosexuality is genetic, but it's not natural!" What. The. Fuck?
But the fact that there really is a book about preventing homosexuality just depresses me. I'm not naive enough to think that there wouldn't be such books - "I'm free now that I'm repressing my sexuality," and all that - but I guess I never thought about it before.
I just don't get it...
Homosexual is genetic? How does that stand up evolutionary?
Homosexuals don't breed that much, such a genetic trait would never survive..
Argh, who am I fooling, it's a fundie..
Hey J there are a lot of genetic things that disallow or impede the owner in their offspring production yet nobody pulls out the "evolution must have killed it" card then.
(to give examples, sickle cell, tay Sachs, hemophilia )
Re: Niobe
But all of those traits have some sort of positive trait that allows the gene to survive. For instance, sickle cell anemia provides immunity to malaria, so in Africa, where I believe the mutation arose, having SCA (my abbrieviation) would allow someone to avoid being killed by malaria, and thus have a greater chance of surviving slightly longer.
Homosexuality, on the other hand, would not spread at all if the owner of the so-called "gay gene" were allowed to practice his or her sexuality, and thus could not really be genetic.
My personal theory is that it's something non-genetic, but not really a choice either. Kind of like if I like fantasy novels, then while I don't choose whether I like fantasy or not, there isn't a "fantasy gene" either.
This is...actually, this is a lot better than I've seen from Sambo83. He's still being sort of an asshat, but at least in this one he's not howling from the rooftops that we need to herd people into extermination camps or shoot folks down on the street. It's fairly evenhanded, all things considered.
Almost gives me a ray of hope here.
So, homosexuality is genetic and a condition someone is born with and has no control over...but it's not ok to be born that way. So if your kid is homosexual, even acknowledging they have no choice in that matter, you'll tell you're kid they're not ok and they're unnatural. I sincerely hope you don't reproduce, if that's the case.
As for homosexuality not breeding itself out if its genetic...first off, homosexuals still have all their reproductive organs and they function, so they still breed. They have babies all the time. Secondly, you can carry a gene and not have it expressed. Both my parents have brown eyes, but I was born with blue eyes. Why? Because they both carried a recessive gene for blue eyes. It didn't express itself in them, due to the dominant brown eye gene, but they still passed it on. Straight siblings and parents of homosexual children still carry the biological markers of homosexuality even if it doesn't express itself in them.
Straight people have gay babies all the time.
"There's no way on earth any intelligent person would tell their kid it's ok to be homosexual.”
YAY! I’m not on Earth anymore! FINALLY got off the Stupidrock!
I would guess, and i would hope, that the more intelligent you are, the less upset you’ll be by learning that your kid is gay, or transgendered, or left=handed.
"There's a book "A parent's guide to preventing homosexuality." Now I'm sure it's a bullshit book,”
Well, can’t argue with THAT.
“because homosexuality is genetic, but nonetheless, the civilized world understands that being homosexual is not natural.”
You use ‘civilized’ oddly. There are homosexuals in almost every species we’ve ever observed. It’s compeltely natural.
"And I don't feel like celebrating my differences. I'm white and Christian, and I like it.”
Your differences from what? From intelligence? From civilized?
“If you're black and atheist and gay, fine with me. I'll still hire you if you're qualified, but I'm not going to celebrate with you.”
Are you… Is this about ‘Pride?’
Couldn’t we say that by NOT celebrating homosexuality, you’re celebrating the difference that makes you cishet? Don’t have to raise a pinata to make it clear where you stand and that you don’t like anyone else.
Confused?
