I love the fact that I don't have to undo 8 hours of world each day. I don't have to re-teach science and creation. I can teach them the truth. I can integrate God into all areas and subjects.

Skeptical: Ambrielle was asking about the homeschooling by FUNDIE parents; I only just skimmed that article, but the study didn't appear to make any distinction between secular and religious homeschooling, let alone have any close examination of fanatical religious homeschooling that virtually ignores or, worse, gives outright disinformation about secular subjects.
The homeschool populations in the studies were running about 90% or more Christian. There have been no data indicating contrary results in any homeschooling population regardless; the sole exception being those that were removed from other schools due to having problems there.

Evolve : I'm pretty sure most people on here aren't talking about normal homeschoolers, just the fundie ones. Homeschooling, when done right, is a whole lot better than public school - problem is, fundies don't do it right. :P

...It's things like this that make me glad that there is not a sperm cell betwixt myself and my partner.
Even if I did somehow have a child, I couldn't homeschool them, I'd have to just do my best to teach them the truth of school, and to learn to love learning, and to think critically and judge sources and become a good person.
I'm a student in the public school system, and it sucks. I spend most of my time copying pointless notes on things I learned 2 years ago. If I could spent those 8 hours each weekday on the internet, I'd learn more in a month than I do over a year in school. And the brilliant thing about the internet is the huge variety of contrasting viewpoints. I might actually be able to learn the truth, instead of whatever the state says is appropriate content for a textbook. We don't learn that Martin Luther was an anti-Semitic asshole, we learn that he was a great man who protested the evil Catholic Church.

Well, as a former fundie home-schooled kid, let me explain how it all works. First of all, if you're a low-life with no respect for parental authority, you cheat your way through high school. As long as you go to church on Sunday morning and say your prayers before bedtime, your mother "trusts" you to "do your own work" to "glorify God." Along the way, you learn how to manipulate stupid fundies. Once you're done cheating your way through high school, you go to a private, Christian college and study theology. Since academics are not relevant to the study of theology, your lack of a high school education does nothing to prevent you from getting onto the Dean's List. You continue to manipulate stupid fundies and hone your skills of self-righteousness to the point where others will no longer challenge your sanctity, even though you're a closet slimeball. You quickly realize that as long as you hold to the "correct" morals and dogma, you're good to go in the fundie community. With theology degree in hand, you go on to become a fundie pastor. Now you manipulate stupid fundies for a living, all the while laughing behind your hand at the bizzare crap they'll believe. You hear "Amen!" everytime you say the word "Jesus" and get paid for making a pious speech every Sunday. Finally, you buy yourself a yacht and retire to the Carribean, to rest from your labors and enjoy the blessings that Lord has in store for all of His fundie preachers.

Oh, and this is a mostly true story, except for the part about the Yacht, but believe me, I'm confident that part will come true before long once I become a high-rolling fundie pastor ;-)
