You've won the prize for most misunderstanding Stephen Jay Gould. There are many, many known transitional forms. Again, we have the fossils. We win. Not that they're featured twice a week (there are a few other important issues in the world), but plenty PBS programs DO feature transitional fossils and evidence of human evolution.

Not within any accepted meaning of the word religion. 2) How much evidence do we have that we have evolved from apes? None True. Humans are a branch of the apes. We have not evolve from apes, we are apes, large brained primates without tails. Actually every transitional form which is found, simply divides the existing gap into two. The evidence seems to indicate that there are eons of less evolution and others of evolution of a greater degree, hence the hypothesis of punctuated evolution. We'll all watch and see what the evidence supports. It provides popular cultural and educational television. It is not the leading edge of accepted scientific thought. For that you would have to learn how to read.

Not within the meaning of the First Amendment. That issue was decided decades ago when the Supreme Court overrode a Bible-Belt school board that attempted to forbid the teaching of evolution. 2) How much evidence do we have that we have evolved from apes? Plenty. In fact, we are now very close to pointing out the exact sequence of DNA changes that humans and chimpanzees went through in order to diverge, and how those changes came about. Also, apes and humans have dormant DNA that was put there by retroviruses. Because this dormant DNA is found in the exact same location in both animals, it's clear that the virus infected a common ancestor and both animals inherited it. The alternative explanation would be that apes and humans were both infected by the exact same retrovirus and it happened to attach itself to the exact same location on their DNA molecules - virtually an impossibility.

No, they were very well aware of the numerous transitional fossils found. The reasoning for proposing Punctuated Equilibrium are rather complex but amount to a quibble over the precise details of evolution, not a denial that evolution was happening.
