No, the Chinese Government may ban a few top-ranking Catholics from visiting the Olympics for political reasons (such as fearing a spat between the Catholic Church and the China Patriotic Catholic Association). That the Government happen to be atheist has no relevance to any possible ban.

They are banned for political reasons, not religious reasons. I'd also like to mention that China will probably never host another Olympic tournament ever again (yes, there are some countries which have hosted it twice now) if they ban foreign athletes based on such "trivial" things.
Darling, you misunderstood the news. They're barring INDIVIDUALS who are not considered personna grata in that country, as Russia did in his Olympic games and many others. They're not preventing a entire group of people belonging to a religion to participate. Of course, you forgot that Falung Gong members and some muslims are also prevented.

Why would catholics want to attend the Olympics, which were named in honor of Greek paganism? Of course, in the old days everyone competed naked. That would boost the ratings for sure. Like, totally.

Looking at the date of the original post I guess this dolt is referring to the 2008 Beijing Olympics and those dastardly atheist Chinese.
Whatever the case, I know of no instance where anybody tried to exclude Catholics from the Games. However, if you want to talk about "rottenness" you should perhaps look a lot closer to home, as in within the Catholic Church itself.
How the fuck could atheists (a relatively small and non-organized group) do this to Catholics (members of the richest, and perhaps strongest, organization on Earth)?
Edit. China as an entity might be atheist, but the people living there are probably not so atheistic.
