(The pastor who helped oust Steve, now Susan, Stanton from his post as Largo, Florida city manager with his "Jesus the Terminator" remark spouts again:)
...Our country started out a strong conservative country. President George Washington was a strong Christian and conservative, along with our other forefathers. If you study American history, you will find this country took God and His Word, the Bible, very seriously for years. I believe God has greatly blessed this country because of those people who took Him seriously....
If you read the Bible, you will find many of the people would not listen to God's prophets and preachers. In fact they killed many of them. Notice what happened to those nations that did not turn from their sins – God destroyed them. Things haven't changed today; many people are still not listening to God's scriptural preachers.
If America continues to go down the liberal road it is going, it will end up being the doom of this country. I believe the only hope for America is that we go back to our conservative roots and seriously seek the God of the Bible.

It therefore follows that the world's oldest nations are, by definition, the ones God approves of most.
Not being a historian, I can't tell you which one that would be, but I'd venture a guess that Egypt ranks pretty high on that basis. We can therefore deduce that Allah is the True God.
Or can we? Egypt actually predates Islam. Is Allah therefore only the inheritor of the One True pharaonic pantheon?
From all we can determine, Washington was indifferent to religion, Christianity included. He went through the motions when the occasion demanded, but every good politician does that.
It should also be noted that God's prophets and preachers are, for the most part sub-marginals.
If you study American history,
Which American history do you study? The one where half-wits make things up that they assume are true and say them in public where idiots like you then take them as fact and assume you've studied all the history you need to know. Although, perhaps I give you too much credit and you're one of the nit-wits or perhaps just an out and out liar. Whatever the case, I laugh at you.
President George Washington was a strong Christian and conservative, along with our other forefathers.
Conservative. You keep using that word.
I do not think it means what you think it means.
George Washington was the leader of the most liberal country on Earth at that point.
"President George Washington was a strong Christian and conservative"
Even if George Washington were a conservative, a 1700s conservative would have precious little in common with a 2000s conservative.
"If you read the Bible, you will find many of the people would not listen to God's prophets and preachers. In fact they killed many of them. Notice what happened to those nations that did not turn from their sins God destroyed them."
So in other words, when God doesn't get his way because he's such a poor communicator that he cannot articulate why his way is preferable, he throws a petulant childish fit and obliterates those who disagree with him? I don't think I'd want to believe in your petty, pathetic God.

And this is why there is supposed to be a separation of church and state. Because one day, hundreds of years down the road, the founding fathers’ words are twisted and re-envisioned to fit a religious groups agenda.
There is no such thing as a “christian America”.
There is no such thing as a rule that America has to be conservative, or that conservatism is the only path to follow.
You are happy with your religion, goody, goody gumdrops. That’s fucking great for you buddy, glad you’re happy. But I don’t follow that. And it is not for you to decide that I do, nor to bust my balls when I don’t.
You are unable to recognize that billions of things have happened in the past couple hundred years, any non-belief has had no affect on that. Between the industrial revolution, world wars, technology, modernization, internation travel and a booming world population, a LOT of things have happened, some good some bad, but none that can be traced to a countrywide “worship level”.
So you go beseech your god for answers to depleted uranium rounds, internet porn, and white house corruption.
WTF??? Our founding fathers were deists, and some admitted atheists, mostly freemasons. Conservative my ass! Free speech was considered a radically liberal idea at the time, but Jefferson and Franklin set the stage with Jefferson's Gospel and Fart Proudly .
Isn't it enough you forced a perfectly innocent person from her job?
I've read American history. And religion play almost no part in the early government, a large part of religious movements were at a grassroots level and didn't emerge until the 19th century.
"Our country started out a strong conservative country. President George Washington was a strong Christian and conservative, along with our other forefathers. If you study American history, you will find this country took God and His Word, the Bible, very seriously for years."
Is that so?
Might I suggest you take a good look at the Jefferson bible, Reverend? While you're at it, look up the First Amendment and the Treaty of Tripoli.
"god" destroyed the Roman Empire, even though they 'turned from their sins'...
Since when does the babble advocate "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness"?
The religionists back around 1776 were wise enough to defer to the deists. They understood that creating an enlightened nation was far beyond the scope of any scripture. Washington was a Deist and Freemason.
STFU, Sanders. You fail.
This is the first website I've ever seen that openly admits that they think going back to our conservative roots is a bad thing.
Congratulations, atheists: You have officially won first prize on America's Most Despicable.
I am totally with Ron here. We SHOULD go back to our conservative roots and seriously seek to fulfill the Constitution as it was written (you know, the most fundamental root of our nation).
Oh, that's not what he said?
Well, damn.
I'd be totally with Ron here, if Ron had even the slightest understanding of ninth-grade-level civics and United States history. Or, for that matter, of Christian theology.
Jake:
Not all of us are American. Not all of us are atheist. Heck, a few here are somewhat conservative. (I'm a Buddhist, Asian, and a centrist)
Second of all, we do not say 'conservative' is a bad thing. We say fundementalism and extremism is bad, there is a difference.
If you want to complain please condemn us to hell in Conservapedia. Or start your own 'Atheists say the Darndest Things'. It's a free world. And more fundie quotes for us.
You people keep blabbering about America being a Christian nation, yet fail to see the irony that Capitalism, by its very nature, is diametrically opposed from one of your big bad commandments:
"Thou shalt not covet".
Maybe you haven't seen a television, magazine, billboard, etc... lately?
The entire point of marketing is and always has been to get you to covet something so much you'll actually buy it.
And that's without mentioning all the other radical conservative ideas that are currently shaping American politics that are anything but Christian. Get over it. Christians who claim that America is a Christian nation are the most responsible for making it anti-Christian.

HIYA JOE..You joe, are a sick fuck. Check this out. If I ever find you I am going to strap you to a chair and cut a hole in your stomach. Then I will rip your pants off. Then I will sever your penis from your body with a blunt knife. Then, after I am done smacking you with your bloody dick, I am going to make you chew it up and swallow it. Then I am going to reach into your stomach cavity, which I conveniently opened up already, and repeat the process... Again... And again... And again... Untill you either die from stomach blood loss (which is THE slowest way you can possibly die)Or I can no longer find pieces of your penis to feed you because you have chewed them apart 10 times over. Only then will you have paid for what you've done. Sleep tight buddy.
"Our country started out a strong conservative country. President George Washington was a strong Christian and conservative, along with our other forefathers."
Not one of the first 6 U.S. presidents was anything close to an orthodox Christian. As for other founding fathers, some were Christians, but some were not. Franklin wasn't a Christian. Paine certianly was not a Christian.
The founding fathers were absolutely NOT conservative. One does not overthrow the king's rule and found a new nation if one is a conservative.
"If America continues to go down the liberal road it is going, it will end up being the doom of this country."
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Liberals will be the death of this country? Notice, please, that every significant element of social progress has been initiated by liberals.
Ayatollah Ron Sanders is one funny bloke. For most of the article it seems like he's just your typical blabbering fundie revising history but then at the end you realize the whole thing was just a shot at the big, bad, evil liberals.
"If you study American history",(which you obviously have not, Ron), you will discover Rev. Ron lies out his ass. Our country started out as the world's most liberal country in 1776(the very idea that men could rule themselves without a king was about as liberal as you could get and NO STATE CHURCH, why that was absolutely anarchistic), the antithesis of a conservative(ruled by king and church) country. George Washington was a deist(you would not accept him as a Christian, Ron. And our conservative roots are an invention of right-wing religious and political types making up lies to fit their agenda of going back to a theocratic idiocracy that never was.
If they are good workmen, they may be of Asia, Africa, or Europe. They may be Mohometans, Jews or Christians of any Sect, or they may be Atheists.
-- George Washington, letter to Tench Tilghman asking him to secure a carpenter and a bricklayer for his Mount Vernon estate, March 24, 1784
"Sir, Washington was a Deist."
-- The Reverend Doctor James Abercrombie, rector of the church Washington had attended with his wife, to The Reverend Bird Wilson, an Episcopal minister in Albany, New York, upon Wilson's having inquired of Abercrombie regarding Washington's religious beliefs, quoted from John E Remsberg, Six Historic Americans
During the presidential campaign of 1880, the Christian Union made the startling admission that, of the nineteen men who, up to that time, had held the office of President of the United States, not one, with the Possible exception of Washington, had ever been a member of a Christian church.
Papabear: Notice, please, that every significant element of social progress has been initiated by liberals.
Really? I was always under the impression that liberals mostly waited until a movement supported by the left became widespread before appropriating it and taking credit.
Remember, the civil rights movement was a left-wing fringe element until it became too strong to ignore.
Jake, you're ignorant of history, and you're apparently a political goose-stepper if you think not conservative = despicable anti-Americans.
You're also completely ignorant of the fact that many of us, myself included, are not atheists (and that it's not only atheists who dislike conservatism).
Jake: I'm Anglo-Saxon English. My conservative roots involve plundering, pillaging, and a belief in a pantheon or 3. =3
For you, though, I'll happily take up raiding again!
"you will find this country took God and His Word, the Bible, very seriously for years."
Yes, especially the Puritans.
Who burned people as witches.
And who outlawed Christmas.
But as soon as the Evil Secularists allowed Christmas, the whole country went to hell. Too bad. So that's why the christians are at war against Christmas!
...and what's with the worship of these rich white slave owners they keep calling my fathers? I have one father, and his name is Chuck. I don't care if the "founding fathers" were Satanists or Mormons or Space Aliens. They have nothing to do with me, or the street on which I live. They assumed ownership of land illegitimately and with great loss of life. It's pitiful and we should not celebrate it for one more second.
....
Everything that can be said has been said, but still...
Jake: OH TEH NOES! America's Most Despicable! They'll put our pictures up on the TV and everyone will call the 800 number and... oh, wait... no... that's "America's Most Wanted." Hmmm.
Okay, so what you're saying is that because we advocate new-fangled concepts such as "freedom" - and we all know how much the Founding Fathers hated that one - we must therefore be evil.
...

QUIT WASTING MY OXYGEN!
I thought we started out as Christian country, Rev?
BTW, think Wash. was a Whig.
George Washington was a secular man, as were the rest of the 'founders'. Yes, they believed in a higher power, but not like the Boogie man versions you modern fruitloops like to describe.
If you study history, you see that they took the word of God so seriously, that they instituted freedom of religion, despite the first commandment. And God blessed them with two world wars(from which some European countries scaped), economic recession, natural disasters which don't exist in Europe and a high crime rate. And by the way, we see what happened to those nations. I don't see that Babylon or Egypt were rags.
the pilgrim fathers were fleeing religious persecution, and once in the Americas tried to start up their own version of intolerance.
The framers of your constitution (much later) were products of the enlightenment - civilised in a way that was the norm in any of the great European capitals.
What they wrote was a product of the enlightenment - theistic in tone because that was the idiom of the age, but pure in its aim to be free from prejudice and partisanship.
It wasn't and isn't perfect, but it is an aspiration of what an ideal society ought to be. It isn't the toy of benighted and self-righteous bigots
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
