So, as some of you may recall from world history class (maybe just the ones of you who were paying attention and not throwing spitballs!), the Bible was translated from the previous Vulgate Latin Bible into English in the 1600s and 1700s.
The King James Bible is one of the editions that were translated, but there were other translations being produced around the same time period as well.
The Latin Bible was itself a translation; originally, the Bible was written (depending on the time period) in Hebrew, and then later in Aramaic, and then later in Greek.
I don't know any of these languages personally; it's all Greek to me! Haha.
Anyway, the original meaning of "helpmeet" in the Hebrew is ezer keneghdo.
It means "a rescuing kind of help". Like, think...EMS personnel, firefighters, lifeguards in action, the pit crew in NASCAR, police officers, Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft.
The ezer keneghdo is here to save your dumb butt from yourself.
So...that's what God means when God says "helpmeet". Just so ya know.
Wonder how well the world would work if we only had men secretaries and no women secretaries. Just a thought! A post-Day Without A Woman thought.
