It's totally normal to feel this way. Just yesterday my eight-year-old was crying and telling me how much she hates her life here, and how badly she wants to go to Heaven. My human instinct wanted to comfort her by giving her earthly things to make her life better, but my spiritual side tells me that she is simply feeling like a lot of us do - world-weary.

Some people might feel pity for us because we don't enjoy our lives as much as those who are of the world do. But no one will pity us in the next life. Jesus told us to spend our lives laying up treasures in Heaven - not to spend them chasing after the next promotion, a bigger house, a nicer car, or a better-looking spouse.

It's hard to live in this world as a Christian. I really don't want to be an old woman in this world, seeing as how it is getting darker and darker every day. But, no matter how, soon we will be going home. Hang in there. I know how you feel.

See how dangerous your "heaven" belief is?

World weary? At eight!? And you think this is perfectly acceptable, don't you?

That there even is a "next life" is one hell of an unfounded assertion. And you want to base this life, the one that you are certain you get, on the prospect that there may be another one after this that's better? Thanks but I think I'll stick to reality and things that have evidence.

Tell that to the televangelists. Oh, I know, they're not "True Christians". Silly me, I forgot.

There's a relatively simple solution to that.

You have indoctrinated your own child to be as disgusted with the world for no reason as you are. That is a wonderful act of charity on your part and all, but, did it not occur to you to, I don't know, appreciate the life you have! To not wittle every hour of your life being despondent about the world not being perfect, and longing for a world that may not exist! You are looking forward to you own death because you believe, with no evidence to warrant your unyielding confidence, that your death will bring you to the Rainbow Land of Chocolate and Golden Petunias! Your God would not want you to spend your entire life on Earth hating his Creation and waiting to punch the clock so you can finally crash at his pad and raid the Refridgerator of Resplendent Glory.

Seriously, you should not be allowed to raise children, let alone multiply...

There's not being materialistic, that's one thing. But suggesting that anyone who enjoys living is doing something wrong...that's just sick. And forcing your daughter to hate everything as much you do...if there is a God, there should be a very special place in Hell for people like you. A danger to the well-being of your daughter, and your society, and you don't even realize it, let alone understand why. Sad...infuriatingly sad.

Do you know what happens to girls like your daughter? Puberty hits them and they develop eating disorders so they can feel like they have some control of their lives...and some of them actually die as a result. Or they turn to drugs to numb the pain of their existence. Or, because they've detached themselves from the pain, they turn to other drugs to make them feel alive...and some of them actually die as a result. Or, they just get tired of their pain/lack of feeling and they commit suicide. And that's not even mentioning the girls who run away from home and end up street kids, prostitutes...and many of them die, too.

This is the path through this life you have carved out for your daughter and as soon as her hormones kick in, she will pay the price for your blind, obstinate, idiocy.

Way to go, Mom. You've been given a precious life to mould and shape and you have distorted, warped and destroyed it. I would suggest a professional mental health intervention but it would be useless because YOU see your daughter's misery as a good thing. PeaceOfChrist, my ass. More like PieceOfShit.

For some reason, I had to go through the list. Now I'm feeling sick.

I am almost disfunctional in this world

I am also having increasingly difficult times relating to family and old friends who are a combination of agnostics, unbelievers, luke warm Christians, cafeteria Catholics, or people that are "spiritual, but not religious."

I'm finding it increasingly harder to function in this world. I just don't belong here anymore. And with the way things are going, we're no longer welcome here anymore.

Lord, can we come home now?

While people are talking about retirement woes..their 401K, etc..I really don't care.

My home is in Heaven. I love my family and the people here, but I hate this earth.

I just don't care for this world any more. I often find myself asking... "Now, what really matters here?"

people are thinking 'what a pity, she's lost her son and wants the world to end'.

I was looking forward to going home before Amanda died,... she used to say to me that she had to die before me because she wouldn't be able to handle life without me. I'd tell her that it wasn't right for a parent to lose a child and I had already lost one. She'd tell me, then, that we had to die together so that neither of us would hurt.

i'm sooooooooooo ready to go home.

It's amazing how many of these people on this board have lost a child.

The rapture may not happen in your lifetimes. Have any of you considered that? Try to take advantage of the life God has provided you with.

I don't feel pity for you, I feel disgusted. You do realize how good you have it, don't you? You are luckier in this life than 99% of humans on this planet. Why don't you get off your sorry ass and go help the less fortunate like your Saviour told you to instead of whining, and appreciate what you have: shelter, food, sanitation, a child, etc? Many people don't have any of these things.

If you can't mange to do this, there is something seriously wrong here: either world-class entitlement syndrome, or clinical depression. Get some help.

Wouldn't Jesus want you to be happier in this world, while waiting for the next?
What's so terrible, is that you seem to think earthly happiness can only come from those material things you mentioned. You didn't even consider someone looking for a more loving, wise or even more productive spouse, just a prettier one! And I swear, I may not have the slightest bit of faith in what you do, but I still am not nearly as materialistic as you must think! A little materialistic, sure, but except for an outstanding few, who isn't? But that just means I don't want to live on brown water and don't want to sleep on hay. So sue me. Neither do you! Fact is, you're using a computer.

If I were you, I'd spend my life searching through scripture for "permission" to live a happier earthly life, if not for my sake then for that of my children. Next, I'd lay off that hidden American Dream mentality! That shit can only make your life harder... Instead, sell your car and use the money for some carpentry lessons. Jesus was a carpenter, and I'm sure the focus and creativity will do you a lot of good.

This is borderline child abuse, to teach your children that this life is meaningless and we are just waiting around til we are wooshed up to heaven. It's not normal, it's downright insane to feel that way.

Hello, didn't God create this world for us to live in? And then you treat it like garbage, like nothing more than a waiting room. I'd bet that it's more of a final exam, if you do well in this life, you can go on to the next level (if God exists at all, that is). You ought to go out in the world, live a productive and giving life, help those who are poor and suffering, as your buddy Christ did in his lifetime.

It's not hard to live in this world as a Christian, you belong to one of the largest religions, you have a say in everything and anything that goes on in this world. In most countries around the world Christmas is celebrated, or at least enjoyed. You are spreading your ideas way faster than the swine flu.
