It doesn't promote anything. Not every book out there is trying to convince you to a particular world view. Fuck.

Actually, I read this as sarcasm making a point we could agree with. I don't read this as fundie at all.

More witty than fundie.
It was both topical and went completely over the target's head.
I actually kind of like this Charlie fellow.

I thought Calvin and Hobbes was pretty fundie-friendly:-

I'd figure this guy was being sarcastic and trying to make a point rather than being your regular baaaawing Christian moron.
A good find, though.

Re: Goosey, et al.
C&H was by no means religion friendly.
Antisocial
Disrepectful of Parents:
Promoting evolution:
Of course it's just a cartoon and I'm pretty sure the poster was being facetious.

Calvin and his tiger Hobbes never interact with their parents(only with each other and friends), never promote any anti-social behaviour(WTF?), they're not sexist(Susie, Calvin's friend is never portrayed in a bad light)and belief in evolution(?). I'm sure that either this guy has never read the cartoons, or he's using words that he thinks that may have an impact for their negativity.

I don't think this guy ever even read the comics.
Calvin is based off the religious dude who founded Calvanism during the Protestant Reformation, Hobbes is based off of Thomas Hobbes. If you know your philosophy, you can see a lot of them come out in the philosophical discussions about god, but then ITS JUST A COMIC and its supposed to be FUNNY!!! For fuck's sake.
Calvin and Hobbes win forever. FOREVER DAMMIT!!!

Are we talking that cartoon strip with the little kid and his stuffed animal? I think there are more pressing issues, Charlie.

Imagine bookstores in Charlie's future theocratic America... One book, the Bible, on all of the shelves. Of course, said America will probably only have about a 20% literacy rate so bookstores would probably be a thing of the past. That or they'd only sell picture Bibles.

Christianity, the shame game. If what you're looking at has any connotations at all, no matter how obscure, light-hearted or unprovocative it is Satan!

What's really pathetic is the the person in question promptly changed his avatar and signature to remove the Calvin & Hobbes.
Truly and deeply pathetic.

"depict" != "promote".
Most people learn the difference between these two things before they leave primary school; please try to keep up.
Oh, and what you probably meant to say was "shield your children from that cartoon", not vice versa.

That or they'd only sell picture Bibles.
The cult couldn't do that; it would be suicide! Many fundies, while inexplicably quite happy to read textual descriptions of the most vile, barbaric behaviour, get quite upset when they see it laid out for them in pictures - just look at the hatemail that guy who does the Brick Testament gets, despite his scrupulous adherence to the accepted texts. This is probably a testament to the average fundie's total lack of imagination.

Let's see:
Disrespect for parents- Do books pertaining really condone disrespect, or are they just simply representing the reality that is children being disrespectful (aside from your lobotomized, brainwashed spawn, of course)?
Destructive anti-social behavior- Read the Bible lately?
Sexism- Just have to laugh at this one...sexism is more common among your ilk than anywhere else.
Belief in evolution- Heaven forbid.
Seriously, chill out. You do not need to personally see to it that everything is censored to perfectly fit your worldview.

Hmm... Disrespectful to parents you say? anti-social behaviour ? sexism?
If you hadn't mentioned evolution, I'd think we were talking about the bible.

Your problem is that Calvin and Hobbes are too intelligent to grow up fundie. They are smart enough to realize that Harry Potter is fiction, Egyptology is history history, not satanism, evolution is a science and as such is knowledge, not a belief, and your attempt to dictate to others what they can or cannot read to fit your own self-righteous beliefs is anti-American and destructively anti-social.

"Doesn't the Calvin and Hobbes cartoon promote disrespect for parents, destructive anti-social behavior, sexism, and belief in evolution? I know I've seen that flagrantly displayed and even jokingly encouraged throughout its pages. Bookstores carry that awful material too."
Oh, bookstores carry materials MUCH worse than that! There's this one particularly offensive book they often carry that contains favorable accounts of incest, polygamy, adultery, rape, mutilation, murder, and genocide. I believe its title is The Bible.
