Well, the only other possible place they could be from that I can think of off hand is another dimension or, possibly, another universe. Given that neither of those is certain to exist or harbor life and both unnecessarily complicate matters, Occam's Razor would dictate that they come from another planet.

Well, it's not terribly hard to find. It's not like they hide it or anything. I mean, you can go to any bookstore and find all kinds of interesting stuff. For instance, just the other day I saw a necromancy text that's purported to have been a 14th century grimoire.
