Quote# 40458

However, the underlying reason many folk believe in Evolution is that they do not wish to be accountable to God (or 'a' God) for anything they do on this Earth.

At least I wouldn´t want to be held acountable by a god that is as immoral as YHWH according to the old testament.
But the reason to "believe" in evolution is rather, that it describes the real world better and contains less contradictions than the stories about creation within the bible ;)

A:While Christians use God to justify royally fucking up the Earth and being dicks to anyone who isn't in their particular branch of Christianity. And
B:NOT ALL 'EVOLUTIONISTS' ARE ATHEISTS, IDIOT

Even if this isn't a repeat quote, it's definitely a repeat of an "argument" that's been featured on the mainpage dozens upon dozens of times. Please stop approving it. It stopped being funny/absurd/horrifying/in any way useful a long time ago.

This guy is a comical moron. I've read him before.

"... they do not wish to be accountable to God (or 'a' God) for anything they do on this Earth."

You're right. I rebel against the idea that I am accountable to anybody except me for anything I do on this Earth.

There, I'm done. The rest of you can address the evolution part.

Unlike you, most people aren't stupid enough to think that ignoring something will make it go away. 'Denying' God because they don't like the idea of God serves no useful purpose.

Nutz

nah, it's usually the insurmountable evidence that evolution is true. God doesn't factor in to this except with fundies who see everything in black and white.

Evolution says nothing of gods, demons, spirits or spooks.

Stop projecting your pathetic desires and insecurities onto us.

FAIL.

The reason certain people don't believe in a religion is that they feel no need to be accountable to a 'god' who doesn't exist.

Fixed.

We belive in evolution because it makes sense. We aren't all atheists. And unless you are a fundy you can still comfortably believe in evolation and God. You just can't believe the description of creation in Genesis is any more than allegorical.

It's more the things I should not be accountable for anyway.

Like looking up porn on the Internet or looking at women.

I don't know about you guys but this has me pegged. I don't want to be accountable to God for my actions. I want to be accountable to myself and the people around me for my actions, this way if my actions hurt someone, I have to go to them for forgiveness, and they might not forgive me and I'd have to live with that for the rest of my life and maybe I'll be wiser next time. But with God I just turn to God for forgiveness and there, I'm forgiven.

Fanatic-Templar

Yes, because 'salvation by faith alone' makes you accountable, whereas obedience to the laws of men makes you unaccountable. Makes sense.

6/6/2008 3:37:45 AM

Na, it's the overwhelming amount of evidence that does it for me.

But...

I'm not an Atheist, and I believe in Evolution. There's just reams of evidence in its support.

I'm accountable to a god? Shit! Which one?

6/6/2008 4:07:45 AM

Evolution does not necessitate an absence of a God, nor does the existence of a God necessitate the abscence of evolution.

Why do fundies have a problem with this?

Allegory for Jesus

"However, the underlying reason many folk believe in Jesus is that they do not wish to be accountable to Brahma for anything they do on this Earth"

Fixed. And, I mean, when you are arguing that people are trying to shirk responsibility by not believing in a religious entity whose entire purpose is to allow for humans to GET REWARDED FOR BELIEF INSTEAD OF ACTIONS, you really do not have an argumentative leg to stand on.

I didn't know we get morality from a scientific theory that explains nothing more than the diversity of life.

6/6/2008 4:44:34 AM

Dark_Lord_Prime

I "believe" in evolution (small 'E', jackass) because it isn't based on badly-written fables, cautionary tales and morality plays produced by ignorant Bronze Age goat-herders.

I'm not accountable to any gods for the simple reason that THEY DON'T EXIST.

6/6/2008 5:15:46 AM

Heh, "Dude".

6/6/2008 8:49:02 AM

Wrong. The underlying reason we believe evolution is because all the empirical evidence and research points to it being true.

Sure, and the only reason Christianity was invented was because a sect of Jews didn't want to be responsible for keeping all the Jewish purity laws.
