Quote# 40468

Just a word of warning - I successfully discipled my family into understanding the times we're in...too well, perhaps.

My view is that the rapture will happen in the very near future. My 17 year old son had been a brilliant student in elementary and middle school, however, I convinced him of my rapture understanding. Suddenly, his grades plummeted. He lost all interest in doing his school work. Basically, his attitude is...why bother. I've been working for months to correct his understanding, but to no avail.

Unintended consequence hits again. The fundies are great at predicting all sorts of slippery slopes for views and opinions they don't like, such as gay marriage and atheism. You'd have thought they'd apply them to their own attitudes, too. Apparently not.

I just looked outside, and still no rapture. Please go to the closet, get one of your blood-thirsty husband's guns, (yes, we know) put it in your mouth, and pull the trigger. It's not too late to save your family and the world from you.

Yes, Daisy Lane, death cults do have a funny way of fucking with kids' heads. He's DEPRESSED because you've basically convinced him that the world he knows is going to end any second, that people he loves will likely end up in hell, and that there really IS no point.

You made your bed, now you get to lie in it. I suggest getting this kid some therapy.

Just wait til your son finds out that there won't be a Rapture.

Great way to fuck up your kids future, he could have had all the makings of a great doctor or lawyer now he is destined to flip burgers!

Nice going. You turned a potential future rocket scientist into another burger flipper.

(dammit, DW took the words out of my mouth)

Congratulations,
you turned your son from a potential brilliant university graduate who could earn good money to a potential burger flipper or plate washer at Mac Donalds.

Cannot blame your son, as Stardrake already said, your son just drew the logical conclusion from your belief that the rapture might happen within the next years.
No need for good grades in this case (if the rapture were real) but rather need for making sure that you are one of those who ascend to heaven when the rapture happens.

Sad for you that you´ll see that even in the next decades no rapture will happen (but your son nevertheless probably will stay a burger flipper ;) )

This woman should be dragged off to a prison somewhere. Her parenting skills are obviously abysmal, and she simply doesn't have the mental capacity nor the psychological stability conducive to child-rearing.

In short, the woman is a fuckstick.

Why? Sounds like he understands the belief perfectly well. If the world is going to end tomorrow, what exactly *is* the point of doing homework?

Wow, what a cunt. Now her son is royally fucked, irregardless of needing therapy, when, and now I guess she has almost certainly made it an if, he applies to college, all that they will see will be the products of his mother's warped and fatalistic worldview. Bitch, your life is probably an essay in how to best fail at existence, and you have succeeded in extending this to the lives of the people you love* most. Congratulations. Perhaps you should get him therapy before he kills himself, or give up for adoption to sane, educated parents.

*As the personhood of fundies is questionable, I'm not sure if the emotion they feel their family members can be called love. More like "It will be extra awesome when my blood god flies out of the sky and blasts them out of existence".

that'll happen when you convince young people that the world is going to end soon. He's gonna have a tough time before he realizes you're full of shit and changes his priorities.

"He lost all interest in doing his school work. Basically, his attitude is...why bother."

Seems a reasonable position to take when told that you have very little time before god himself shows up and whisks you off to heaven. Hell, if I bought into it I'd do the exact same thing and accuse anyone who didn't of not truly believing the Rapture was imminent.
