And let's not forget that the rest of the thread where the comment came from made no mention of her situation. Looks like fundies really DO see things selectively.
6/9/2008 7:57:07 AM
So you tell your son that death is imminent, and then are surprised that he subsequently has no interest in school?
I for one am shocked to my core.
6/9/2008 9:13:18 AM
You did it. You deal with it. Idiot.
10/28/2009 1:41:08 PM
Way to go in destroying your sons self esteem, by filling his head up with such fundie crap.
10/28/2009 4:07:03 PM
and all this time they keep saying that atheist´s life is meaningless...
make you son a favor and give him some of the books from Richard Dawkins. Or better make him read the bible, this for sure is going to make him do his best just for god´s annoyance
10/28/2009 6:07:08 PM
Good work you fucking idiot. Someone really should have traced his IP back then and reported him to social services. This kind of shit is disgusting. You've potentially fucked up your son's life, turned him into a religious nutjob like yourself and when nothing happens you're going to look really fucking stupid.
2/23/2010 5:44:45 AM
Do you think Jesus cares about people's GPA? If not, then why are you worried about your son's grades if the rapture will happen in the "very near future"?
I'm guessing that though you might have been able to fool your son, you haven't really managed to fool yourself. Have you?
2/23/2010 7:08:56 AM
So, why are you so worried?
I see two possibilities:
* Not so sure that the Rapture is eminent (I know that's a big word -- it means "in the near future"), meaning you're a failure in your own faith.
* Not so sure of his own salvation, meaning you're a failure as a mother.
2/23/2010 7:40:39 AM
@MBD: "Not so sure that the Rapture is eminent (I know that's a big word -- it means "in the near future")"
(Psst. That's "imminent", "eminent" means imposing, outstanding, etc.)
2/23/2010 8:00:44 AM
Dang it, I looked it up, corrected it, then in a later edit, misspelled it again.
2/23/2010 8:07:44 AM
"My view is that the rapture will happen in the very near future"
Will you be saying that when you're on your deathbed, wheezing out your last, and only then will you realise that you were taken in by the greatest con-trick upon humanity. To paraphrase PT Barnum:
'There's a sucker born again every minute.'
And only then, at the end, will you understand. That you wasted your life on pointless waiting & praying, praying & waiting, ad infinitum, ad nauseam. When you could've been doing so many fun and interesting things in the meantime. Including getting a good education so that one can get a good job, and generally contribute to humanity.
Well, that's the same fate you've condemned your son to.
And more reason why I think that not only is right-wing Fundamentalist Christian dogma in the family essentially child abuse (see "Jesus Camp"), fundy Xtianity as a whole should be illegal.
You're the reason why, Daisy.
2/23/2010 8:20:30 AM
So you filled your son's head with fundy drivel and bible fiction, telling him that there's no point to anything in this life, as one should only focus on the destruction of the world because you all will finally get to go to heaven....
Yeah, I'd be depressed too. Poor kid.
2/23/2010 8:29:45 AM
The Rapture, the Rapture. Good for turning intelligent people into blithering idiots, and not much else.
12/21/2010 2:35:41 AM
Ha ha ha. Fuck yeah, asshole.
12/22/2010 6:51:51 AM
Remember that when he will be unemployed, at home and without qualifications to make a living............without the Rapture ever coming.
2/16/2011 3:48:23 AM
Maybe he is secretly using drugs and he knows that using the rapture is a cover that you will buy.
3/4/2011 12:41:03 PM
Serve you right! If you tell your son "we're all gonna die in a few months/years", what purpose do his studies serve for him? According to you, he's never going to be able to use his knowledge in a job or further studies. He's just going to die, soon.
Maybe if you say "Christ said he'd return 'in a few years', but as that was almost 2000 years ago, it IS meaningful to get an education, as it might take another 2000 years before he actually comes back"?
3/4/2011 1:16:32 PM
I convinced him of my rapture understanding. Suddenly, his grades plummeted. He lost all interest in doing his school work. Basically, his attitude is...why bother.
Exactly. And technically, he'd be right (as much as I'd hate to encourage the shunning of an education).
But, this quote was posted three years ago, so this kid has either just turned 20 or is coming up on 21. I wonder if he's been able to reason his way out of that crackpot belief system.
Well, the doors of FSTDT are open to him (I hope), if he wants to come hang out here. >_>
3/4/2011 5:48:49 PM
And to think fundamentalists have this silly habit of accusing us atheists of having a bleak outlook on life. Of course the kid's going to be kicked screaming down a whole staircase of depression; World ending? Why bother. That kind of emotional abuse has no place in a young adult's most emotionally turbulent years.
Do good; Expunge death cults from culture. Teach the value of life and knowledge.
3/4/2011 5:54:09 PM
Really bitch are you that stupid?! You didn't think telling your son that the world is going to end soon is not going to negativity effect him? If you want to die that badly, just be an hero now so don't damage you son life anymore. And, poor kid, I can really understand his pain. I was depressed as hell for a while with that same though.
3/4/2011 6:34:41 PM
wow you are one fucked up woman..
Why would you want to break your son's spirit like that?
I Hope you DIE IN A FUCKING FIRE BITCH!
3/4/2011 9:00:39 PM
Unintentionally unmasking the flaws of your beliefs?
1/2/2012 2:43:24 AM
Slave to Uni
Fundyism backfiring is always hilarious.
1/2/2012 3:29:33 AM
sounds like the 17 year old has a better grasp of the obvious than you do. If the rapture is happening soon then he will either be taken and will not need his high school education or he will be left behind and suffer the tribulation.
either way he will not lead a normal life with job, girlfriend-wife , kids and a mortgage so why bother trying.
1/2/2012 9:19:23 AM
"My view is that the rapture will happen in the very near future."
Alan Davies: 'Was this in America, by any chance?'
Stephen Fry: 'How did
you guess?!' [/hyper-sarcasm]
AD: 'They won't learn, will they?!'
'The Rapture is imminent
