Quote# 42494

[Mr. Barber is back to slam gay marriage.]

With its recent 4-3 opinion - which arrogantly presumed to redefine the millennia-old definition of legitimate marriage - the California Supreme Court daftly divined that the framers of the California Constitution intended - all along, I guess - that Patrick Henry really had a constitutional right to "marry" Henry Patrick. In so doing, four black-robed Dr. Frankensteins have loosed that paradoxical abomination tagged same-sex "marriage" on the countryside.

"Abomination," you say? Isn't that a bit strong?

Nope. God used it.

Abomination, now that's an interesting word. I would've saved the word it for something like the holocaust.

I disagree with this statement.

Or, in the style of the writer, "What quarrelsome quackery does Mr. Barber presume to disseminate so darkly and heretically upon our homelands?"

Yeah, your god is so loving and kind to his creation. It just blows me away how nice a guy he is.

Epic. Afraid that the founding fathers' intentions on the matter has as little to do with this as it would in granting equal rights to women, and slaves. If what they said was in favor of it, that is a plus. But, otherwise, the bigotry of an age past should not reign our decisions today.

The word 'abomination'... Par for the fundie course, I guess.

The word 'paradoxical', though... How in the nine hells do you figure that one?

Who is this God you speak of that uses polysyllabic words? You can't attribute something to an entity without proof that the entity exists or has existed and did make that statement at some point.

Come on. You're not even trying.

Why can't an omnipotent god just remove homosexuality or prevent it from happening altogether then go through all this trouble of telling its believers to kill them.

Ah yes. Concerned women is basically one giant "Speaking as a Mother".

"Speaking as a mother" only works when you are discussing children or something of that ilk.

"Speaking as a mother" does not give you the right to wail on minority sexualities.

Its like S&M, I don't care if it happens between two consenting adults. I don't like pain at all, so I shall stay away from that aspect of sex. I also don't like Gay sex. So I shall not indulge in it. If you like it, then by all means please do.

And anything god does is, apparently by definition, a measured and appropriate response. Like laying entire civilisations to waste and torturing people eternally for finite transgressions.

That's right. Marriage hasn't changed in millennium. It's still a sacred vow between a man, his wives, and his 300 concubines. Women are still property, and a black man can never marry a white woman.

Matt, bubeleh, the judges didn't redefine anything. They simply ruled that the current law prohibiting same-sex marriages was contrary to the state constitution. C'mon, keep up.

Abomination in that context means a break from ritual practices.

How dare they allow something I don't like!

Oh well, you can always move to homo-intolerant societies like Malawi or Saudi Arabia. I'm sure their embassy's numbers are in the phone book.
