A person has the right to remain ignorant regarding science and believe in any kind of religion they want, but keep it out of the public schools.

Solution: Begin the process of privatizing K-12 education!
The **problem** is that we have compulsory, police enforced, government indoctrination camps! Get rid of them and **thousands** of conflicts that can have no compromise will evaporate like dew on grass on a hot summer’s day!
There is absolutely NO POSSIBLE WAY for government to teach about the origins of man in a religiously neutral manner free of religious, cultural, and political consequences.
Those that claim that it is possible to have a religiously neutral education are hopelessly stupid or deceitful.
Government schools are a freedom of conscience and First Amendment abomination!

Also, they educate all those poor people, and we wouldn't want *that*, would we?
That's generally what it boils down to. Those who want to opt out already have the capability to do so, so it's not really about kids being forced to attend public school, it's about the fact that they think nobody should have the *option* to.

Is this guy serious about that? People were fighting even in the Bible, you know. *facepalm*
"There is absolutely NO POSSIBLE WAY for government to teach about the origins of man in a religiously neutral manner free of religious, cultural, and political consequences."
Well, we could teach evolution.
Ding.
Looks like it's working. Kudos all around.
I went to an anglican highschool and managed to have completely religiously neutral education. Although, that could be because every time religion came up, I just stopped paying attention... I didn't pay much attention in school.
Yeah, replace those "compulsory, police-enforced, government indoctrination camps" with compulsory, police-enforced, religious indoctrination camps and watch your nation's people turn into complete and utter morons in a generation.
No, the problem isn't the schools -- it's that we allow Christians to run indoctrination camps for children. "Vacation Bible School" was crap. Except the crafts, sometimes -- some of those were neat. Then again, that's the way we do things up here in the Pacific NW. Yay for old hippies!

First of all, public education is absolutely necessary.
Secondly, if you're an unsophisticated knuckledragger, don't pretend you're a poet as well.

Yes there is. Teach science, and teach it well.
Please understand: You don't get to choose reality!

Your mom is hopelessly stupid.
"I don't claim the fundamental goal of science education is the suppression of religious belief the fundamental goal of science education is to question everything. It's merely a side effect and their own damn fault that religion fares poorly when subjected to criticism." -PZ Myers

Hang on there! Horus, Mithra, Krishna, Prometheus, Odin, Thor and 6700 other man-made gods are knocking on the door.

Ignoring your hyperbolic description, would you care to explain why the government does this? Hint: You live in a democratic country.

Yes there is, and works in both public and private schools, it's called science.

I'll make you a straight deal. I'll agree to get behind a shut down of all public schools if...you'll get behind the revocation of churches' tax exempt status in order to provide the extra funds necessary for poor families to pay for a privatized education.
Double asterisks do not turn a type font into italic or bold.
Secondly, if it weren't for government schools, nearly all the population of America (and the UK come to that, and virtually anywhere else you care to mention) would be terminally ignorant, just as you appear to be.
Education is not a compulsion, it is a right. And knowledge does not come from a book of fairy tales, but from the study of fact, and from the exercise of reason. The concept of 'education' based on religion is hopelessly stupid.

Let him do it, he'll be in a third world nation before he can say "Microscope".
Edit: Kilahti, same here.
Uhhh... they do teach it in a religiously neutral way, evolution isn't associated with any religious or spiritual beliefs as much as you'd like to think otherwise.
And there are already private schools, if its that important to you pay the extra money to send your brat to one.
Confused?
