Quote# 46881

"During the 2004 election season, he praised President Bush's performance during a debate with Sen. John Kerry, then offered a not-so-subtle message about his personal candidate preferences. "I'm not going tell you who to vote for, but if you vote for this particular person, I question your salvation. I'm sorry." Kalnins added: "If every Christian will vote righteously, it would be a landslide every time."

Months after hinting at possible damnation for Kerry supporters, Kalnins bristled at the treatment President Bush was receiving over the federal government's handling of Hurricane Katrina. "I hate criticisms towards the President," he said, "because it's like criticisms towards the pastor -- it's almost like, it's not going to get you anywhere, you know, except for hell. That's what it'll get you."

In a democracy you have the right to question anyone, be they President or pastor.
And if a church starts pushing one particular candidate they should lose their tax breaks.

Even if all this rapture stuff were true, folks -- Bush is a psychopath. How much sin does he have to commit before you realize he's paying lipservice to Jesus without actually heeding Him? He makes a bigger mockery of your faith than Dawkins can ever do.

I'm the daughter of a preacher. Granddaughter... greatgrandaughter... niece of two preachers. Take it from me, criticism towards the pastor is a competitive sport. No one hesitates a milisecond.

Another right-wing political toadie masquerading as a preacher, and a Nazi one at that. My brother is a minister and believe me no one stops a congregation from being critical, to even suggest such a thing smacks of cultism and self-worship.

If every Christian will vote righteously, it would be a landslide every time.

By the average fundie's definition of "Christian", that would only add about 60 votes.

"I hate criticisms towards the President," he said, "because it's like criticisms towards the pastor -- it's almost like, it's not going to get you anywhere, you know, except for hell."

Yep. Blind obedience to authority based on the religious idea that authority has a divine right to rule and so opposing the leader is also opposing God.

That's exactly what the founding fathers fought the revolutionary war over.

Just not the way the bulk of the right wing seems to think.

This is another reason why I'm voting Democrat.

-Democratic voters go to hell
-Righteous Christians only vote Republican
-The President is similar to a pastor
-Criticizing the President will make you go to hell

Amazing.
