Quote# 50253

A nervous system is electrical activity in the brain. Where do you think everything is controlled at? Consciousness = / = electrical activity. You can have electrical activity in the brain without being conscious. And yes, brain activity (electrical impulses) are found in the first trimester, as well as a heartbeat and DMT, which is the hormone most agreed on by scientists to be responsible for the human soul / spirit.

I recommend studying neurobiology to get rid of the myth that scientists use spirit/soul outside of their personal beliefs or even associate it with an drug that is only in traces present in the human body

Where do these fruitloops come from?

There is no detectable brain activity in the first trimester. And there is no such thing as the human soul/spirit.

"A nervous system is electrical activity in the brain"

Comma spinal cord, eyes, and rest of the body. But go on.

"Consciousness = / = electrical activity."

Apparently it is, because we haven't found anything else up there.

"You can have electrical activity in the brain without being conscious."

My computer uses electricity to run either Windows or Linux. Since Windows is electricity, Linux must not need any, but uses it anyway for other shit.

"And yes, brain activity (electrical impulses) are found in the first trimester,"

So fetuses aren't necessarily conscious?

Good news for pro-choice.

"DMT, which is the hormone most agreed on by scientists to be responsible for the human soul / spirit."

Actually most neurologists agree that the soul / spirit is either a metaphor or completely non-material.

aaa

Spirit? Just a neural circuit.

LOL! DMT is actually a hallucinogenic chemical. :D

DMT?

Which DMT is it you are talking about?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyltryptamine
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyl_terephthalate
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desoxymethyltestosterone

I don't know any other use of the acronym DMT

Wow, this is news. scientists now think there is a hormone responsible for the soul/spirit? What a load of BS.

Also, having a functioning autonomous nervous system does not make you self-aware. Just sayin'.

spirit? i think what's "most agreed on by scientists" is that if you smoke DMT, you will trip balls.

You know that the concept of a hormone being responsible for the "soul" completely nullifies the necessitiy of the soul?

10/23/2008 12:09:32 AM

Mister Spak

Where can you buy DMT pills?

10/23/2008 12:12:53 AM

Papabear

Scientists, real scientist, have no chemical they deem responsible for the human soul. Depending upon what definition one uses for the "soul," I imagine most real scientist wouldn't even agree the soul exists.

P.S. The nervous system is not only the brain, and consciousness IS electrical activity in the brain. Not all electrical activity in the nervous system is consciousness, but without such activity there is no consciousness.

Allegory for Jesus

"brain activity (electrical impulses) are found in the first trimester"

Hahahahahaha...nice. There is a small amount of neural activity around ten weeks after conception, so we are near the end of the first semester at that point. There is enough neural activity to provide for actual reflexive movement around week 16, but, all of this isn't necessarily indicative of higher cognitive functions (consciousness), but merely indicative of the development of the spinal-reflexive activity, which, even in full-grown humans, doesn't necessarily need a brain to occur. The consensus seems to be that fetuses have some form of vague consciousness and ability to feel pain at some point between week 20 and the middle of the third trimester (with most tending towards the third trimester estimate). And guess when most abortions occur? That's right: long before they reach that point.

Bullshit, 100% grade A bullshit.

When people say the human mind/soul is embodied that's not what they mean. Electricity does correspond to consciousness, consciousness is your "soul".

This puts a while new spin on pulling stuff out of your ass. A hormone that controls "your spirit"? Oh come on.

God, if there is one, grant me the ability to bitch slap stupid people across the internets.

Don't pay.

No one agrees that DMT is the "hormone" responsible for the soul/spirit.

the existence and characteristics of the soul are not exactly in sciences purview. I doubt there's a hormone assigned them.
