Why are unbelievers pro-abortion, but believers are against abortion?

We already know for a scientific fact that life begins at conception, and that human life begins once the woman's egg begins it's cellular division (meiosis) after fertilization.
Being armed with these scientific facts, why do the Atheists and the unbelievers do the non-scientific thing and adopt an arbitrary reference for their definition of life? Why does one (confused) unbeliever point to the first trimester and yell, "There!" and another (confused) unbeliever point to the second trimester and yell, "No, it's there!"
A third yet will withhold pointing the finger until the baby's head has completely emerged from its womb!

Is it that with the unbeliever politics will always trump reason? And if the unbeliever always allows politics to trump reason, what right does he have in saying religion is unreasonable?

Fellow-believers, do you think there's a cure for this deficiency of the human condition?

The debate isn't about when "life" begins, although you seem to have a fuzzy idea of what constitutes meaningful life. The question is, at what point does the gestating organism become a human being. May I suggest it's when the neural pathways are complete, brain function can be detected, and the fetus has a reasonable chance of surviving outside the womb? Say the end of the 24th to 26th week? You people frame your argument by mutilating language beyond recognition. The terms zygote, embryo and fetus are used to indicate clearly obvious changes in development. Your constant use of the term "baby" has no magical powers that change biological reality.

Actually, I'm in agreement with the late, great George Carlin, in that I believe human life began about 5 million years ago, and that my parents' conception of me is but one more step in that process that's been ongoing ever since.

Nope. For me, it's the reverse, as I've never been very political. (Fellow FSTDT-goers, if you want an irony meter-buster that has nothing to do with religion, think about all the people who look down their noses at the athletes who follow the path I once aspired to follow, that of a professional wrestler, saying "oh god, that is so fake", while believing as they cast their votes that the outcomes of political races aren't equally pre-arranged. Actually, as silly as the stories often are, pro wrestling is better than politics in that there's usually a writer backstage who can come up with a decently interesting plot twist once in a while.)

Then again, I wouldn't expect you to know too much about reason, Holy Roller, you whose mind has a death-grip on a collection of ancient superstitions.

Your religion may indeed have been a necessary aspect of society in the past, when humans in general understood so much less of the world around them, but the time has come wherein the cure for many deficiencies of the human condition, as you so aptly put it, is to put away those old superstitions and leave them behind us forever.

Firstly, it's mitosis, not meiosis. Secondly, you sound like a thirteenth century "homunculist", who believed that male sperm carried miniature, fully-formed babies, and that the woman was just an incubator. Thirdly, you are just yet another idiot who has confused "pro-choice" with "pro-abortion". Nobody should be forced to have/raise a child they don't want, or to give it up for adoption, and nobody should be forced to have an abortion.
