1. I've never claimed to be an American, under any name I've posted under on this site. I just follow US news with some interest. I am also not a Christian, and have never claimed to be one. As far as Dr. Williams is concerned, as a major figure in Western Christianity, he should expect his statements to be examined and critiqued. Or do I have to be a Christian before I have the right to do that, or to consider the effect of his stature when it is applied in the service of certain causes, noble or otherwise?
2. Regarding your statement of my fitness as a human being, let's see how you deal with a religion whose centrepiece (The Qu'ran, and specifically the Sunnah of Mohammed) calls for your execution for being what you are. I'm sick of being tolerant toward those who want me dead, and oddly enough, disinclined to trust them at their word of "It ain't so, Joe". Yes, that's right folks - if a Muslim is tolerant toward homosexuality, then they are ignoring examples of their Prophet specifically commanding the opposite, and are therefore takfir (apostate). Therefore, I look with an extremely sceptical eye upon any Muslim who claims to be tolerant of homosexuality.
3. Sure, I sometimes post under the one name, and sometimes the other. It involves me having one name on various boards that I am (mostly when the topic of Islam comes up, as I observe and post under certain boards dealing with that topic) looking up at the same time as FSTDT. I sometimes forget to switch the names in the AutoComplete section, especially when sleep-deprived.
4. Regarding Sharia, I am actually somewhat more knowledgeable that you (@869445) seem to give me credit for. It's not just Saudi Arabia, it's any nation ruled under Sharia, be it Iran, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Yemen, Somalia, northern Nigeria etc. etc. Everywhere it is the de facto (not de jure) basis of the legal system, certain deplorable characteristics are common:
a) Women are systematically oppressed by the courts, and womens rights are, at best, a smokescreen to propitiate the nations' Western political patron (eg Saudi Arabia's "Poodle Parliament" and its conference on womens' rights).
b) Homosexuality is at the very least a high criminal offence, sometimes "meriting" the death penalty.
c) Other religions are afforded, at best, second-class status (eg Iran, UAE), or outright banned and squashed (eg Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Somalia).
d) Punishments that are considered brutal and inhumane by current worldwide legal standards (eg behanding) are practiced with abandon and justified as "Mohammed diddit!".
e) Human rights, as understood by the contemporary (mostly) Western world, are an utter disgrace in any of these nations, many of which (ironically) sit on the UNHRC.
5. My apologies for wanting better than this barbaric way of life for myself, my friends, my people and (especially) my various female relatives. Rest assured - now that I know what your prejudices in this field are centred around (namely: Islam is really a "Religion of Peace", no matter the evidence - both empirical and theological - to the contrary), I will leave them be, rather than challenge them.
