Quote# 55534

Many don't know it, but atheists have their own little Christmas prayer. They only have one: "Please don't let there be a God." Why would anyone want a life where there is no God? A God that we can talk to whenever we are troubled, lonely, or in need of a friend? A God that inspires us socially and intellectually. The atheist has nothing to look forward to in death, except if he or she is wrong. Jesus did not say forgive them for they know not what they do, for those who thumb their nose at Him and His kingdom. Only God knows what horrible suffering they will endure for eternity. Why would anyone risk God's wrath, when his love is free?

My imaginary friend is much hotter than Jehovah, and just as effective.

I'm not an atheist, but I sure as shit don't believe in your bs Christianity. Why? Because there's so many stupid arbitrary rules that go along with it, plus a lot of unsubstantiated claims that anyone above the age of ten can see are nothing more than fairy tales. Besides, there doesn't need to be a god, certainly not one in the capacity that you believe exists, for there to be souls or some sort of existence beyond this one. Call me stupid, but that's what I think.

"A God that we can talk to whenever we are troubled, lonely, or in need of a friend?"

And how often does he talk back?
PS: not everyones fucking pathetic and needs an invisible crutch to lean on like you.

Logic demands that I ask: to whome are atheists directing their prayer? Certainly it can't be god or satan. So, the question remains: to whom?

@Wackadoodle:
Everytime a schizoprhenic person talks to him!

"Many don't know it, but atheists have their own little Christmas prayer."
Many don't know it because it's a bold-faced lie, you mean...

"They only have one: "Please don't let there be a God.""
Wouldn't that just make that person an extremely stressed-out agnostic?

"Why would anyone want a life where there is no God?"
A life in which you're convicted of thought crimes and must spend eternity groveling at the feet of an almighty dictator? Sounds sweet!

"A God that we can talk to whenever we are troubled, lonely, or in need of a friend?"
I have REAL friends, thank you very much.

"A God that inspires us socially and intellectually."
I find inspiration from something called NATURE. Say it with me now...

"The atheist has nothing to look forward to in death, except if he or she is wrong."
PASCAL'S WAGER! Minus twenty points!

"Jesus did not say forgive them for they know not what they do, for those who thumb their nose at Him and His kingdom."
So He DIDN'T die for everyone?...

"Why would anyone risk God's wrath, when his love is free?"
Take my love OR BURN!!!!!

@seraphicreverie: I've developed a theory of religions based on silly hats. I figure that any "god" who gets pissed because you don't wear the right goofy-ass headgear (mitre, snood, yarmulke, turban, hijab, John Deere baseball cap, etc.) cannot be an authentic deity, or at least not one worth worshipping and obeying.

No matter how you phrase Pascal's Wager, it's still a fallacy.

1/5/2009 10:00:13 PM

Papabear

Excuse me, but who would an atheist be praying to?

1/5/2009 10:01:38 PM

revolt

Atheists don't pray, I'm pretty sure.

1/5/2009 10:07:21 PM

But his love isn't free if God is going to get pissed if we don't love him. There is a thing unconditional love, that's what a true should possess.

1/5/2009 10:14:39 PM

Ozzie

Sorry, wouldn't let me edit.

I meant what a true God should possess.

Doctor Whom

Why would anyone want a life where there is no God?

For about the trillionth time, wishing doesn't make it so.

A God that we can talk to whenever we are troubled, lonely, or in need of a friend? A God that inspires us socially and intellectually.

I have people in my life for that, and they actually exist.

Why would anyone risk God's wrath, when his love is free?

Yeah, why would non-Muslims risk Allah's wrath when His love is free?

WTF?

1/5/2009 10:37:11 PM

Ken

Who wants to talk to someone socially inspired by God?

1/5/2009 10:37:27 PM

Mortok

Free, eh? Well that doesn't matter, since I don't intend to pay for "love" in the first place.

1/5/2009 10:43:15 PM

"Many don't know it" because it's bullshit.

1/5/2009 10:43:17 PM

HoJuSimpson

Pascal's Wager and "boo hoo my life sux help me, jeebus" as usual.

1/5/2009 10:46:33 PM

John

Why would anyone risk God's wrath, when his love is free?

Why would God be wrathful just because someone doesn't believe He exists? Especially since He seems to go out of His way to hide Himself. If someone said "I don't believe there's such a person as Darryl Durand, would Darryl get so mad at him that he'd like to see him thrown into a lake of fire and tortured? If so, Darryl needs a psychiatrist. So does his God.

Brain_In_A_Jar

A God that we can talk to whenever we are troubled, lonely, or in need of a friend?

You can also do that to trees, rocks and the sky. Getting a response is the real trick.

Many don't know it, but atheists have their own little Christmas prayer. They only have one: "Please don't let there be a God."
Oh really? That's news to me. I'm not atheist because I don't want a god to exist (if one did I'd have no trouble with that), but because I don't see how, logically, one does exist.

"A God that we can talk to whenever we are troubled, lonely, or in need of a friend?"
Maybe I'm wierd, but I find absolutely no comfort in someone I can't even hear when I'm any of those things. Let me know when God can physically hold me, and can audibly respond.

"A God that inspires us socially and intellectually."
Huh?

"The atheist has nothing to look forward to in death, except if he or she is wrong."
Some of us actually don't mind the idea of just not existing once we're dead. Personally, unless some drastic changes happen, it will be a relief.

I pray to Ceiling Cat. He's not great at answering, but he never threatens me, either.

@Lucilius

Hehe, yeah, that's a good method to use when weeding out the bullshit religions...but then again, I really despise the idea of organized religion in general.

My prayer is something like "Please keep those psychos on the other side of town where they belong."
