Cause as far as I'm concerned, God created the morals we are to adhere to. Since God makes the rules, then hell CANNOT be "immoral" because HE has created what is moral and what is not moral. If God, the creator of Morals, says "eternity in Hell for not following me is moral" then guess what--its moral!

In that case, God should send himself to Hell, for breaking his own moral code. He went against the 7th Commandment (Thou shalt not commit adultery) for getting Mary pregnant. And as for the 6th Commandment (Thou shalt not kill), where do we start?! God is a hypocrite, and as proved time & again (The Crusaders, the Conquistadores, the Spanish Inquisition, the KKK, abortion clinic bombers, Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, Ted Faggard, et al), his followers are just as rigid in following God's moral code.

Frankly, this world would be better off without Christians (& all other fundies as well) As John Lennon said in 'Imagine':

Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too.

Ah 'out of context'. Just like 'you misunderstand Scripture', the standard excuse used by fundies who are caught saying what they shouldn't. 'Taken out of context'? Bollocks. If the Bible says it that way, it means it that way. The Bible is the literal 'Word of God', amirite? After all:

So it's moral to drown millions of women with child in the Flood? To make thousands of pregnant women in Egypt miscarry (as no doubt they did) due to the plagues wrought upon them? To order his 'Chosen People' to do as described in the Old Testament? As in these for instances (emphasis added):

Hosea 13:16: 'Samaria will be held guilty, For she has rebelled against her God. They will
fall by the sword, Their little ones will be dashed in pieces, And their pregnant women will be ripped open.'

Deuteronomy 2:34: 'And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men,
and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain'

Deuteronomy 3:6: 'And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon,
utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city.'

Frankly Satan is St. Francis of Assisi by comparison, ergo far more deserving of worship, belief, and respect.

'Sin' is defined in any dictionary as committing crimes against divine law. Or contravening the moral standards of a deity(ies). But since we Atheists don't acknowledge the existence of a 'God', therefore we can't be sinners.

We Atheists certainly have higher moral standards than your 'God'. Just read the Old Testament for proof. Therefore we Atheists are superior to God. I've never killed anyone in my life, nor do I want to ever. Does this make me good, and 'God' bad? I think so. Certainly to everyone in civilised society.

right-wing Christian preachers. All have been exposed as embezzler, adulterer, condemner of
homosexuals (but secretly a homosexual himself, and therefore a hypocrite), Tax-evader, serial statutory rapist, and paedophile respectively. Oh, I'm afraid that all you right-wing fundies only have the right to refer to we Atheists and non-fundie Christians, Agnostics, Wiccans etc on FSTDT as purer than Jesus, certainly superior to God, and utterly sinless in perpetuity.

We Atheists, Humanists, and anyone who is a sane, normal, decent member of any civilised society (certainly we on FSTDT), live by this way of thinking:

1- Treat people as you would want them to treat you.
2- I wouldn't like to be killed/harmed, nor have my property stolen/damaged, so why should I do the same to others?
3- Commit acts of gratuitous kindness.
4- Be good for goodness' sake.
5- ?????
6- PROFIT!

See? Words to live by. All the morals you ever need. So what right does religion have to complicate such a simple philosophy with it's unjustifiable dogma of 'guilt' and 'Original Sin'?

Ergo, the superiority of Atheism. Certainly to right-wing Fundamentalist Christianity. QED.

I'll answer an issue here, and then probably forget about this place until the next time I google my username and see what new slander you've all posted.

I actually didn't even claim that the verses were out of context, I claimed what had said was taken out of context. Which it was. That has nothing to do with verses. Also, if you think that "reading the Bible out of context" is an excuse, you must have a difficult time comprehending written language. All written language must be viewed in it's historical and cultural context to make sense. The Bible is no exception. And I'd be interested to see if you could produce a single instance where a "fundy" used "out of context" as a way to excuse themselves from saying something "they shouldn't".

Here is what I'll say to you. What makes killing anyone immoral? What, in the act of taking a life, is intrinsically wrong?

Nothing. It's just an action. We have to place value on those actions. Why do we place a negative value on killing? Because we put a positive value on human life.

You need to explain to me your reasoning for believing humans have value. If you can show me that humans have objective value, and retain that value regardless of whether God is real or not, then I'll agree with you that God is immoral. However, if you can't, then you need to realize that you are presupposing that humans have some sort of intrinsic right to live independent of their Creator's will.

In my understanding, this isn't the case. God reserves the right for judgement and killing. Christians should NOT be killing. I'm a firm pacifist, and I believe that's supported in Christ's teachings. However, God, as the Creator, has the right to take life, and does not have to answer to His creation in doing so.

Now, if you think that's crazy, that's all well and good. However, until you can show me how humans have some objective worth, you have no philosophical grounds for making any sort of moral statement. Your morals are like Monopoly money--they look similar to real money, but they've got nothing behind it to give them any real value. Same goes to the Humanist guy with the graph.
