A wise man said:
"Torture has been redefined by the left."
No it hasn't. torture is torture, you know as well as I do what we would both consider to be torture, if say our family members were on the receiving end of it.
"We don't torture at Gitmo."
No matter how many times you say it, it doesn't make what you say true.
"Waterboarding works or it would not be done."
It's still torture.
"The guards do not beat the detainees. Our enemies torture our soldiers to death."
Here's a quote from a guard at Gitmo...
"I saw people storm into the cell and beat that detainee, and then zip-tie the detainee and pull them out. I saw that done excessively," he said.
I saw people kicking detainees in the face. It's torture, it's a means of extracting information that I didn't even believe these people probably had.'
And of course there is Abu Ghraib. Or doesn't that count.
"If we drape an Israeli flag around a terrorists shoulders, and threaten to send pictures home to his friends...the left calls that torture."
I'd like to see that. Citation needed.
"If we show puppet shows to Gitmo detainees about how its wrong to kill...
the left calls that torture."
See above. Citation needed.
"Turning up and down a standard air conditioner is not torture, but it gets these guys to talk. And thats the point. If they didn't talk under such pressure, we wouldn't be doing it."
Throwing freezing cold water over people or putting them in steel containors in the blazing sun outside, is not turning up or down the air con.
"America doesn't torture."
Yes it does.
"Whiney anti-war liberals say we do, but we don't."
Oh do give it a break, your arguament is one long denial. It's not just the 'left' either, military people sick of the armed services being degraded by these tactics have also spoken out.
"We will aggressively interrogate. And I'm not ashamed that we do. Nor am I a lesser Christian for believing that."
I don't even think you are a Christian with an attitude like you have. One of hate and derision for the other. Zero compassion for anyone who isn't 'you'.
"The people in Gitmo are prisoners of war taken from the field of combat."
Not all of them by any stretch of the imagination, as the people who have been released so far prove. Some were handed in for your tax dollar bounties by rival gangs. Some just happen to have the same or a similar name, some were snatched off the street to make up numbers.
"They are some of the most evil people on earth."
Fail, utterly.
"Even with Obama, we may never be able to release some of them. never."
That may or may not be true. Put them on trial and if guilty lock them up, if not suck it in and admit that mistakes were made.
"There is no pie in the sky."
??
"Sin and evil exist in the world."
I have no doubt they do. But it isn't down to you to define what they are.
"Pacifist policies do nothing to protect the people."
What on earth are these 'pacifist policies' you are on about? Oh yes, something you stated so it must be true.
"We need to deal with evil, not ignore it."
Absolutely true, but dealing evil with evil solves nothing, it just created more evil. Claiming that the US doesn't torture is at best myopic at worst a down right lie.
There are an awful lot of non partisan books out there on the subject of 'terror' and 'middle east politics', why not drop by the bookstore and read some.
