*Obama lifting ban on Stem Cell Research*
More proof that our President has an agenda to ban any iota of morality left in this country. This country is sick with sin, and many are still in their sin induced coma. Mr. Obama, may the Lord have mercy on you, and may you yet come to repentance. I shudder to think this man is leading us. I will say it again, he is NOT MY president. It becomes more difficult each day to celebrate being an american. Instead, I mourn for the greatness of this country that was.

Oh yeah, Obama's new "Ban All Morality" bill - the one where anyone exhibiting any kind of morals will be immediately killed. He's working on that next week, right? Don't worry, you guys at RR are safe since you have no morals to speak of. You'll be cool.

And stem cell research was never banned. Government funding for stem cell research was banned. Anyone could still experiment on all the little embryos they wanted as long as it wasn't paid for by tax dollars.

I wish I was this much of a fucking baby when Bush was "elected". Since I am fairly certain that I could have applied all of those sentiments to W (maybe not two damn months into his actual presidency, but close). If we left it to God to protect us from diseases and to heal us from amputations or spinal injuries we'd be waiting forever.
Embryonic stem cell research was never banned. Not that it matters because EMBRYONIC stem cell research never worked to begin with. Adult stem cell research, on the other hand, works almost every time.
You'd think with the economy going down the tubes, Obama would spend federal money on something that's actually helpful.

I'm sorry, but that's just not true. Adult stem cells are wonderful, and they hold a lot of promise, but saying that because we have adult stem cells, that we don't need embryonic stem cells just isn't true. Part of the reason that adult stem cells are more effective at moment is because they've been able to get funding recently. The federal requirements about not funding research for embryonic stem cells was so strict that many labs gave up because it was just too hard to distinguish between equipment bought by the government and equipment bought with private funds.
Adult stem cells are great, and should be pursued, but embryonic stem cells are important, too. They are going to be used for different purposes than adult stem cells and they are more versatile.
Think of it this way: your president, halfwit that he is, banned the very research that might have saved his hero (and hero to most of you fundtards), Ronald Reagan.

Sorry for posting again, but this is just so stupid! An embryo can't become a fetus and then be born unless it implants. I mean, by their logic, sexually active women should mourn their periods every month!

We get to pick our government, its called democracy, D-E-M-O-C-R-A-C-Y, roll that lovely word around in your mouth a few times. It means you, your neighbors and your countrymen get to pick your leaders. Once picked they are your leaders, no question - so he is your President, that is the reality sweetheart! Still, over there on RR your aquaintance with reality is somewhat distant at best.
News for you guys: Your brand of morality isn't the only one there is, believe it or not. The embryos used for stem cell research don't even have anything that resembles organs, let alone consciousness. Isn't it better that these balls of cells go to some higher purpose (like giving someone who does have organs and consciousness a life that may approach normal especially as compared to what state their disease would leave them in) than to just be destroyed in another unproductive way or just due to sitting in the freezer for too long?

I'm sure Cherished would take any help that was made possible by stem cells if it were he or his family.
Ever see a picture of a cell, Cherished? They are very, very, very tiny. They are not human beings. (The only exception is one picture I saw that showed a cell wearing a top hat and tails.)

Both sides really tend to come off ignorant on this issue.
First of all,both sides tend to think that stem cell research always means embryonic stem cell research.
Fundies ignore the fact that these cells come from zygotes and claim that the cells come from abortions.
Liberals tend to act as if there was a federal ban n all stem cell research. the ban was only on federal funding of embryonic stem cell strands that were not already being used prior to to the ban in 2001.
The fact is that ebryonic stem cells show little promise. Adult and umbilical stem cells show the most promise for medical use.

really though, not a single one of these people know the first thing about stem cell research. ok that's pretty obvious, but I mean... if you ask them about evolution they at least know that it's about organisms changing into other species over time. they can at least give you that. but these people literally don't know even the FIRST thing about stem cells. they can't even tell what they are, why science is interested, what the research is trying to do, or even why they think it's evil.
