I don't think anybody was terrified of the tea baggers. Do you watch anything other than Fox News? They were a laughing stock on the other networks.

And he's not scared of them at all.
The world did not change overnight because of 9/11. The attacks on that day (1) happened during the day and (2) were planned months, if not years, in advance.
The only things that changed as a result of 9/11 were (1) Americans suddenly became aware of the dangers facing us around the world, and (2) American civil liberties were eroded beyond recognition.
