Interestingly, I have a VERY fundamental friend. Like you would not believe. Her entire life revolves around her faith in Christianity. She avoids things she deems un-biblical like the plague. Her and her husband watch nothing any more risque than The Andy Griffith Show, and she's lamented about how deeply disturbing my TDK Joker posters are. And yet, we're very good friends. Why is this?
Because she's not a stupid bint like you people over at RR. She's read just about every version of the bible from back to front, and even has this nifty one that compares the KJV to the original Hebrew and Greek (...or was it Latin?). Yes, she says some godawful stupid shit about 'the other side' sometimes but she's receptive to any proof otherwise and has admitted being wrong (for example, when I proved Obama DID have a god damn US birth certificate). She doesn't push religion hatefully or defensively and is capable of explaining her views rationally and calmly, without getting angry. She'll even LISTEN if you want to give her opposing views, and hell, I'll admit that in more than one discussion, I'VE been the one to get a bit loud and frustrated. She's a smart, genuine woman and it's tragic that her brainpower is being wasted by such things as a devotion to Fundamental Christianity, but I have respect for her because she behaves as you'd imagine a devout Christian would: with compassion, kindness, and patience. She's as close to one can come to genuinely loving the sinner while hating the sin, and she forgives others willingly for their trespasses because hshe's aware she's no better.
The god damn BEST thing about my fundie friend, and the one biggest clue you can pick up from her, though?
If she doesn't like something, she avoids it. She doesn't like secular books, so she tends to not read them. She finds things like cussing and skimpy dress offensive, so she avoids them when she can. And, like you, she feels like the things that are put on secular TV are outrageous, offensive, and occasionally harmful to the little minds of children.
However, unlike you, she doesn't throw a god damn tantrum over it. She steps back, and says, hey, I don't like this, so I just won't watch it, or let my kids watch it! The secularists and do what the will, that's fine, it doesn't have to affect me because I can avoid it!
Please, take a hint. If one fundie can act like a rational human being, you all can.
